MySocialSecurity account?
I was on ssa dot gov last September or October. I managed my sister's finances and had to get on her social security account then. I recall there was a notice on the site that pre-existing logins would stay on ssa, while new ones would be a new system.

One more tech account and password update to navigate now.

This is correct information:

Some time ago, like maybe last year, Social Security switched from their own login system to using either id.me or login.gov.

It's more secure. Although it's available on line, I've always received a 1099 by mail each year.

The government has an innate ability to make things harder than they should be. Their websites are a prime example. The goal here is to make things easier for the government and eliminate the mailing cost.

I’m not sure the system is more secure with respect to authorization but it seemed to do more due diligence with respect to authentication. But that’s just a one time thing to setup the login. The login process after that and the inherent system security is a different matter. Probably no different than any other big public or private system.

Even after that there were a few hickeys.

But after 24 hours those have straightened themselves out.
