I’m collecting 1099s for upcoming TY2025 filing and payments. In prior years I logged in to my Social Security account to get the SSA-1099. No problem. But now my login attempt fails, even though I have my username and PW in my PW manager. But there’s a message. It looks as though they want me to establish yet another account named MySocialSecurity. Are any of you seeing that? Serious about crackers.

I've always used ssa dot gov. I tried it just now and everything looked ok all the way through the 2 factor authentication, then it said it can't complete my request and to contact them. hmm. Idk what the story is.

I just took a quick look and the website I'm used to is ssa.gov. I didn't actually log in though. ETA, tried logging in and it didn't recognize either my email address or password. It requested email address even though that's not my "user name". I don't know what the story is either.

This has been in place for at least a year I think. You have to use one of those, most go with Login.gov I think. That message is from the landing page to log in, so not sure how you're even getting around that. Just used my Login.gov credentials, works fine. You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

I just now logged on using Login.gov. No problem. Yeah, there are only two sign in options: Login.gov or ID.me. Q

Even after logging in to LOGIN.GOV first the SSA login fails with the message: “We're sorry but this program has terminated unexpectedly”. But there’s the advice to set up the “MySocialSecurity” account. Yet another account. Grrr Serious about crackers.

I made it in through ID.me. It remembered my sign in info, but then still need third party auth. Looking at my earnings statement, my first earnings year was 1973 and made a whopping $216! Adjusted for inflation, that would be $1577 today.

Crushing 6guns, $387 in 1980. Also see three pretty clear years where I was doing landscaping, carpentry, painting, etc..... You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

Soome time ago, like maybe last year, Social Security switched from their own login system to using either id.me or login.gov. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I would do "Clear browser data" or cache and try again. Or use a different browser. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. Advance user tip - if you have a Login.gov account for other purposes (like filing work payments, returns, etc.) be sure you've not associated your SSA account with that. This took me way too long to sort out that I had crossover in the two. You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

It appears that I got it working again. I pasted this into my browser: “How to establish a MySocialSecurity account?” And found a site with good instructions. I wish that they wouldn’t keep changing the procedures. Tax time is stressful enough as it is. I’ve been using LOGIN.GOV for several years to get in to my social security account, but it didn’t work today until I made some revisions. Serious about crackers.

Yes. I had to create a login.gov account, and then use thoses login credentials to log into ssa.gov. “We truly live in a wondrous age of stupid.” - 83v45magna "I think it's important that people understand free speech doesn't mean free from consequences societally or politically or culturally." -Pranjit Kalita, founder and CIO of Birkoa Capital Management

I believe they are 'trying' to get away from that. Difficult, I imagine, for a LOT of seniors. _________________________________________________________________________ “A man’s treatment of a dog is no indication of the man’s nature, but his treatment of a cat is. Would be OK with me to do away with it, but I am not going to seek that out, and they have never asked me to. "While not every Democrat is a horse thief, every horse thief is a Democrat." HORACE GREELEY

Yes, I use login.gov. Also, i receive mailed 1099s from SS every year. I think it possible though to opt out of the mailed stuff though.
