I think this is an awesome first step. Public schools and teachers unions were long ago taken over by commies (see #s 17, 31, 36, 41), and public schools are not the benefit to society that they were intended.

I'm in favor! Of course, the logical extension would be No Kids (in public socialist schools), No School Taxes! If you send your kid to a private school... you should not have to pay twice. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

I think this is a slippery slope. Parents alone cannot afford their kids' education (unless I have my number swag wrong). If education of kids goes down, society will suffer. However, if my swag is off and what parents pay is enough providing schools stop paying administrators six figures and burdensome teachers are let go to do it, I'm all in. Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. I agree with this completely. I have no kids. My neighbor has five kids and the exact same home and lot size. We both pay the same school tax despite his dependants occupying five seats in the local school. He should certainly pay more tax than me for this. He gets write offs for his kids on bot the the state and fed taxes for his kids who are consuming the product of public education. I don't mind paying for some public education but he should pay higher taxes for his kids who are consuming the product. If anyone deserves a tax break in the public education realm its us folks without kids.

The argument has always been that Society as a whole benefits from an educated populace, and I suppose there is merit to that line of thought. However, the state of public "education" has reached a point where the merit is dubious. flashguy Texan by choice, not accident of birth

Not to mention that you can actually send your kid to a very good private school for less money than most 'public' schools spend per year. It's all about the cost of legions of 6 figure administrators and YUGE defined benefit retirement plans ... "Some things are apparent. I am 100% for this. I have no problem paying taxes as long as society as a whole benefits and improves. IE Less dumbasses which makes life better. Unfortunately, the current system allows stupidity to prevail. I am probably private schooling my children anyway. That won’t fly when they realize how much money they will miss out on not only from people without kids but people with kids who are no longer in school. Instead of gouging people for their entire lives they will only get them for a much shorter length of time.

I don't have kids yet. I think that there should be a baseline school tax for property owners. The baseline covers the benefit the property owner gets from being in a school district (increased property value) and the fact that the property owner has access to the school should he want to (when he does have kids and for other Civic services), and the mutual benefit to society of having an educated populace and partial day care to working adults. Then, above and beyond the baseline property tax, schools should charge tuition to cover their operating costs. This takes care of people who rent and more kids than others.

Let's say your property taxes to the public school are 4,000/year.... and you own your own home from the time you are 30 to the time you are 60.... 4,000/year x 30 = $120,000 You paid 120K to send little Johnny to the public school! Even worse if you live there until you are 70.... 4,000/year x 40 = $160,000 "Some things are apparent. That's because public education has become much less about actually educating and much more about indoctrinating. Thanks, Sap

I am entirely in favor of this I have no kids, yet I feel that is 60% of my property taxes are going towards schools I have no use for, I should be able to claim the little bastards that go there as dependents But seriously, the benefit that society is getting from public schools today is marginal, if not non-existent so I think this is a great first step Yes, its a slippery slope, but if you want public schools to continue, then make it worth my while to support them. Right now I get zero benefit from schools. it would also go a long way to reducing the role of government in areas where they have no business being [B] Against ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC

Private schools get by with only charging per student per year of classes attended. Public schools charge everyone forever! The amount of waste is staggering. I pay $3,265.90 this year in school taxes, and all of the folks that live near me pay similar. The average cost of private school tuition in my county is $5,698.50 per year. (I averaged the averages of elementary and High school tuitions) We should all be out front of the local public schools with fucking torches and pitchforks demanding to know who has squandered our tax money, but we are so used to getting fucked that we collectively shrug.

I agree 100%. If someone wants to have a lot of kids, that is their right. For public education, pay the bill. This will never happen here in Utah, but the Federal code seems about to change. We home school and get less than 0% cooperation from the local District. They routinely ignore State law, certified letters, etc. Outside the local and State government of NJ, I've seldom met a nastier bunch of folks. Make those using the services pay for it, or let the District eat cake.
