One of my bikes is a 2002 FLHTPI, owned it since 2003.

Some of the improvements over my 02 is the hydraulic cam chain tensioners, a six speed transmission, larger displacement and the optional ABS braking.

Changes I’ve made to my bike is the hydraulic cam chain tensioners from the spring loaded ones, a Stage 1 tune, Progressive Suspension front and rear together with a Progressive Touring Link which helps to eliminate the Harley “death wobble” that some bagger riders have experienced.

This year it’s getting 10” FBI (Fat Baggers Inc) bars, trying a different riding position as shoulder problems are starting to get worse.

Also I see you still have the police saddlebags, I prefer those over the civilian bags as they can be opened while sitting on the bike. And an FYI the Top Shelf brand saddlebag trays can be used with a little modification to allow the lock cylinder and latch to function.

If I can be of any help, my email is in my profile.

Congratulations that looks like a nice bike. The 96" motor has some nice upgrades over the 88" and 2008 improvements included the 6 gallon tank (up from 5) and I'm not sure but maybe Brembo brakes and TBW as well. Enjoy!

This one has the 103ci engine and yes, Brembo brakes. I ordered the AN Big Sucker and Cobra slip on mufflers for a stage one, don’t know that I’ll go further than that. Kinda wish it had the ABS option, but it doesn’t. I wish the snow would go away so I could ride it, I can take the cold, but snow and ice on two wheels scares the hell out of me.

Bice that it has a 103 and maybe even better that it does have the nice Brembo brakes. Keep an eye on the front pads, mine are pretty thin by 18-20K but they sure work well.

Yeah, I tried to keep blinders on as I walked past all the bikes in the showroom, never made it past this one. Kinda brings back some memories. Early 2000’s my department had a Road King, I was one of 3 officers certified to ride it.

Now I go down the rabbit hole of mods to make it mine. Don’t think I’ll get too crazy, seat, tour pack, those sorts of things.

Thanks for the comments!

What Department did you work for when you rode?

Yup! The FIRST thing I'm doing is changing the seat. I understand the "why", but it's too damn uncomfortable for me to ride like that.

I know there's a ton of them out there, and some are in good shape with low miles. Indianapolis just got rid of theirs about a year ago, 3600 to 4700 miles on them. Denver PD got rid of a few of theirs too. Columbus PD, well... Talk about a bunch of "rat bikes"! Beat up!

Soon, real soon... But like I said, I gotta sell my Shovel first. I need 2 scooters like I need a second hole in my head.

I live in Jamestown ND, still working for the PD. Please don’t get the idea that we had a big motor officer program. We had one bike and 3 of us were certified to ride it. We had it less than 5 years then someone at city hall decided that since we couldn’t ride it year round it was a waste of money.

I traded my softail on this, kinda tough to do cause the softail was the first harley I owned. All Hondas prior to the softail. Would have liked to have kept it but couldn’t really afford two and I would like to start taking some trips on the bike. Softail was fine for short trips but not sure I’d want to go more than a few hundred miles on it, getting old and it takes too long to recover.

Put a Mustang Super Touring seat with a driver backrest on it yesterday.

Hey, don't think we've got a big motor officer program either!
Budgeted for 13,500 cops, we have 10 Harleys. Probably 15-10 are qualified to ride.

The only thing we really use them for is parades and dignitary motorcades.

On the plus side, those 20 cops have some really nice (and expensive) custom jackets! (And the Sgt that came up with the idea was smart enough that when the officer leaves the job, all he has to do is take the patches off, and now they have a great riding jacket!)

Those Mustang seats are nice!
I hope for you, it warms up soon so you can ride a little!

I had a '98 Police Electra Glide - rode it from the day it was delivered to the Sheriff's Office until it was retired in '04. Bought it from the agency and brought it home. Peeled off most of the decals, replaced the front strobes with driving lights, and rode it for years just like that.
While it was still new, the stock horn was replaced with a thermostatically controlled fan to draw air between the jugs when it got hot during escorts, parades, etc. Changing a couple jumpers in the siren box (I think) lets the horn button now activate the air horn feature of the siren. So, the siren remained, of course. Can't have a motorcycle without a horn, can we? Wink
Gave the bike to my son a few years ago. He's a volunteer fireman, so the bike sports blue strobes again. Mine (now his) still sports the functional solo air seat. We both find it comfortable.

OP- if you want to maintain the cop look of that bike - I can make you a deal on a genuine Motorola radio box - gently used. Not as much space as a Tour Pack, but it really compliments the lines of the full fairing bikes.

If I can find a decent picture of it I'll edit my post.

Mustang seats are nice, had a two up on my Shovel and now it sports a solo seat. The seat is twenty years old and still feels good.

Still have my Shovel too, 82 FLH. Andrews cam, solid lifters, CV carburetor, single fire ignition. If my painter ever gets done with it the new color scheme will be Birch White, FX Superglide rear fender, Fat Boy front fender. Am probably going to powder coat the front end, dash panel and rear fender struts black.

One thing, look into the Harley Hammock seat, it is available in a heated and unheated design. Most Harley dealers have a demo seat program. While the air seat on the FL Police bikes are not a easy on/off like the civilian models there should be a bike on the floor that the dealership can put it on to demo it.

If they don’t, take a ride up here to the dealership I work at, I’ll get you set up!

This bike did not have the solo seat like what was on the bike my department had, it was a standard Electra glide two up seat. This Mustang looks and feels much better and has a backrest, something I think my old back will appreciate.

Im really looking forward to this summer, I’m planning on a couple of rode trips but haven’t decided where yet, if I get to MI I’ll shoot you an email.

Again, thanks for all the comments.

You did great, upgrading from softtail to PD. Glad to see you are enjoying making it your own. When I upgraded from sporty to full sport touring machine, I realized how perfect a larger bike can be. Luggage, comfort, and style!

Good looking bike! LED's are your friend, they really help to be seen and are fairly priced compared to many other mods. Check out Custom Dynamics and Ciro 3D. Nice winter projects. Shiny side up!

Made a few changes to the bike and it's finally dry enough to ride it.

Thought I'd include the mods done so far.

Lower fairings and highway pegs, tour pack, mid frame air deflectors, shift linkage, converted all lights to LED and added smoked lenses, did a Stage one - Arlen Ness Big Sucker intake and 4" slip on mufflers, Mustang Super Touring seat.

I think I'm done for awhile.

You planning on a short trip south to Sturgis and the Black Hills? Need not be during the Rally to enjoy the area here.

Actually, yes. A friend from work and I are planning a trip down there the week after the rally. Have a motel room booked in Deadwood for the 17-18th of Aug.

Smart move. The couple weeks before and after the Official Rally are the best times to come in my view.
