Well, I'm 73 and had elective surgery May 8th. Two follow up Dr. visits afterwards.

In my experience, the day at the hospital was safer than going to Walmart or Home Depot. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

My appointment in April was rescheduled to 6/28 but all meds were refilled as requested by phone with 5 refills with the exception of more strict controlled substances that is on a monthly request for a refill. His office staff is exceptional in patient services and he will also do a teleconference if needed for the duration of this pandemic stuff.

I got labs done last week and a CT SCan at a local hospital yesterday. Place was basically a ghost town and everyone of course was wearing masks and screening before entering. Stopped at grocery store on way home and it was busy and abut half not wearing masks. Most dangerous part of my day was on the roads avoiding the texters while they were driving.

I got two more doctor appointments next week and have no worries at all. The doctor offices I go to screen patients and including take temperature before you can even get in the office and ONLY patients with an appointment get into the office.

There is no right, universal answer.

I suggest you discuss the risks / benefits with your doctor by phone / email. It is your decision but the doc can help flesh out the pros / cons.

My wife is high risk and is under the care of 3 different specialists. Her decisions over the last 2 months have been more challenging. I’m low risk and thus it was an easier decision for me as to my annual physical that was scheduled for yesterday (I opted for the video call and no labs btw).

For both of us, our decisions have been guided by our doctors’ advice.

In mid-March, I heard an interviewer on the radio advise that all current decisions should consider the below 4 questions collectively:

What is the risk if I do it?
What is the risk if I don’t do it?
What is the benefit from doing it?
What is the benefit from not doing it?

Too often, we pick only one or two of those questions. But I’ve found the full set to help guide us right now. I even use it to decide to refrain from visiting a shooting range until the situation improves!
