Diesel jumped from $3.70 to $5.14 a gallon. Gas doesn't seem to have jumped as much: $2.80 to $3.50.

Sharply up around here.

Wawa I pass on way to work was $3.39 this morning and $3.69 going home tonight. Ugh

$4.39 for premium at Sheetz this afternoon.

And they went up like a rocket but will drift down sloooooooowly like a feather to a "new normal" price that is higher than it was. It should be illegal.

When I was a kid I worked at an independent gas station just off US-40. Prices then were about 19.9¢/gallon, regular. For that customers got:
*Tank filled (by me)
*Tires checked and filled
*Oil checked (and topped up if customer wanted to buy it)
*Windows washed
Known local customers got 2¢/gallon discount.

I worked for Exxon when I was a young man. What a lot of people don't realize is that when you refine a barrel of oil not all of it will become gasoline. So depending on storage and other factors price can increase even when the price of the barrel drops. Generally, this is what you will get.

From a refined barrel of oil, the typical products produced include:

Gasoline: Approximately 73 liters (or 20 gallons).

Diesel Fuel: About 40 liters (or 11 gallons).

Jet Fuel: Roughly 15.5 liters (or 4 gallons).

Kerosene: Around 15.5 liters (or 4 gallons).

Hydrocarbon Gas Liquids (HGLs): Approximately 2 gallons (or 4%).

Residual Products: Includes asphalt and other lighter fractions, which can yield about 1 to 2 gallons.


In total, a standard barrel of crude oil can produce about 45 gallons of refined products, including gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, kerosene, and other lighter fractions.

Paid $3.09 outside of Pensacola this morning, and $2.99 in Franklin KY this afternoon. Was gonna fill up before I got home but decided to wait because the best I saw in Indiana was $3.49, and most were $3.59

Every gas station in my area is $3.19

March 2: $2.65 / 3.29
March 3: $2.76 / 3.39
March 4: $2.89 / 3.59
March 5: $2.89 / 3.79
March 6: $2.99 / 4.09
March 9: $3.09 / 4.29
March 11: $3.19 / 4.49

Gas spiked to $120 early Monday so naturally all the Wawas around here jacked up their price to $3.69, the price quickly dropped down to around $85 by mid-day Monday but did Wawa lower their prices? Nope, as of this morning they were all still $3.69

I think they've gotten too big now to care, it used to be they had the best prices anywhere but anymore I can go to 3 or 4 different gas stations that will be lower than them.

I use the Gas Buddy app and have the filter set to only display the Top Tier compliant companies. I have 4 top tier station at the entrances to my neighborhood and another 7 stations on my most frequent route. It's amazing that there can be a $0.30 per gallon difference.

Ran out of gas on the lawn tractor last night, all 4 cans, empty! Drove up in the EV to the gas station, $4.30 a gallon for mid tier 87. I get the higher octane since I can put it in the HD if needed.

$4.199 yesterday for Chevron 91 octane. That's up quite a bit from a few weeks ago at the same station.

A small price to pay to keep nukes out of the hands of radical Islamists who are determined to use them to bring the end times.

In the EIA's latest (3/11/26) Weekly Petroleum Status Report, the US:

produced 13.6 million barrels per day of crude oil

AND we imported 6.4 million barrels per day of crude oil.

Let's take a look at the 6.4 million barrels the US imports daily to maintain life as we know it:

Canada - so far we've been averaging importing 4.0 million barrels per day in 2026. The good news is this is almost entirely pipelines. They're cozying up to China like crazy to export crude oil from near Vancouver so we'll have more competition in the future for Canadian crude oil.

Rest of world - transports 2.4 million barrels per day of crude oil to the US via super tanker. Therefore, when 20% of the super tanker traffic gets stopped it's a big deal as we're bidding against the rest of the world for the remaining super tankers.

It jumped another .50 a gallon here yesterday. Up a $1.20 in a few weeks. But it will take a six months to a year for it to lose that amount.

I’ve never understood why gas that has been refined weeks or more in the past is instantly affected by the market. The price of a quart of oil sitting on the shelf at wal mart doesn’t rise and fall every day with the market. If anything the price of gas should trail the market.

As someone else pointed out, it’s priced at what it costs to replace it, not what it cost to produce it.

Agreed, I believe in free market but gas companies use any excuse to drive up prices and profits. They seem to forget that virtually everything is dependent and influenced by fuel costs.

I'm personally tired of watching gas prices rise when a refinery that has no connection to this area has a problem.

It's time for some regulation to stop this and help get inflation under control.
