Per Trump the special military operation against Iran has not impacted energy prices nearly as much as Zelensky's attacks against Russian energy infrastructure. Hopefully most voters will stop associating the Iranian conflict with high prices at the pump.

The US produces 176 million barrels of diesel annually which is much more than we consume (the rest is exported).

They are gouging us on the price of diesel and using Russia and Iran as an excuse to do so.

$4.45 for 87. $6.48 for diesel about 20 minutes ago. I'm less than pleased. I don't use diesel, but I do use home heating oil...$6.00/gal delivered. That's $1,650.00 to fill the tank. Looks like the wood stove is going to get a workout this year.

$6.59 and really wishing the 7.3 was an option in 2015. Not worth buying a new truck for, yet.

$6.50 for gas here. Speculation that it might hit $8 by end of year. Maybe $10 next year. Got me thinking of the Y again but really not my preference.

Trump Says Russia, Ukraine Agreed to Stop Energy Target Attacks

The price for diesel has soared in recent weeks, hitting an all-time high in the United States on Monday.

President Donald Trump on Monday said Russia and Ukraine have agreed to stop attacking energy targets, coming as diesel prices have soared in recent weeks.

“Ukraine has agreed not to hit Russian Energy targets. Russia has agreed to do, likewise! The World’s Diesel price rise is mostly caused by the Russia/Ukraine War, not Iran,” he wrote in a Monday Truth Social post.

Increasingly, Kyiv has targeted Russia’s oil and gas industry with long-range drone attacks, saying they block Moscow’s capacity to fund the war that erupted in February 2022.

The comment from Trump on Monday follows public requests he made to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to stop the attacks on Russian energy facilities because the strikes are “hurting the world” economy.

“Mr. Zelenskyy has to do one thing. He has to stop knocking out diesel fuel in Russia,” Trump said during a visit to Ireland on Sunday.

“Let him go after targets but not diesel fuel because he’s causing a shortage of diesel. This isn’t done by the Middle East; this is done by what’s happening with Russia and Ukraine.”

The statement also came as the price of diesel—used for heavy transportation, commercial shipping, mining, and agriculture—rose to $6.23 per gallon on Monday, according to figures released by the American Automobile Association (AAA).

A week ago, the price stood at $5.90 per gallon, and it was $3.69 a year ago.

Meanwhile, Monday’s diesel price marks the highest average recorded by AAA. And notably, California is averaging $8.15 per gallon for the fuel, the updated figures show.

The rise in diesel prices synchronizes with a surge in crude oil prices in recent days amid the U.S.–Iran military conflict, namely over the crucial Strait of Hormuz.

In addition, Saudi Arabia has faced attacks on its energy infrastructure in recent days.

Brent crude futures, the international benchmark, rose more than 3 percent on Monday to $108 per barrel.

U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures also increased more than 3 percent to $103.50 per barrel.

A wave of long-distance Ukrainian ​drone attacks on Russian oil refineries in recent months ⁠has reduced that country’s fuel production, triggering gasoline shortages ​across the country.

Ukraine, which has faced regular Russian attacks on its own ​energy infrastructure, has argued that Russian refineries are legitimate military targets.

In a Sept. 7 post on X, Zelenskyy said Ukrainian soldiers are “responding justly to Russian strikes on Ukraine” by striking a Russian oil refinery in the country’s Ryazan region.

Long-range drone attacks were also launched against facilities in the Perm and Tatarstan regions in Russia, he added.

Russian officials welcomed Trump’s comments.

“Any call on the Kyiv regime ‌to ⁠stop attacks on civilian economic infrastructure can only be welcomed,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a daily conference call with reporters on Monday.

Peskov also said the situation in ​global energy ⁠markets was worsening mainly due to “instability and new rounds of escalation in the Persian Gulf region,” referring to the months-long conflict between the United States and Iran.

Trump told Russian President Vladimir Putin in a call last week that he wants to see a quick end to the Russia—Ukraine conflict, an official said.

That followed visits from U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in both Russia and Ukraine earlier in the month.

Costco nearly doubles cost of motor oil, limits purchases

(NEXSTAR) — Costco may have cut the prices for several popular items earlier this year, but it’s now raising the cost and limiting the sale of another: motor oil.

Costco’s Kirkland Signature full-synthetic motor oil 5-quart two pack now costs around $58, well above the approximately $30 it had been selling for just last year, and limiting customers to buying two boxes a week. It is also limiting purchases of Mobil 1’s full-synthetic motor oil 1-quart six pack, which sells for about $44, to five per membership.

A price hike and purchase limits may take you back to the days of empty shelves where toilet paper once stood, but this likely won’t impact you as much as you may immediately fear.

Unless you’re responsible for “a fleet of thousands of cars,” you probably don’t have to worry about it much, Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy, told Nexstar.

“The normal car requires four to five quarts every 5,000 miles or so,” De Haan said, describing Costco’s limit as “what would be an extremely reasonable amount.”

It is, however, indicative of a larger picture: high oil prices.

De Haan told Nexstar that oil prices have reached their highest level in months. He pointed to attacks in the Middle East, the Red Sea, and the East-West Crude Oil Pipeline in Saudi Arabia, as well as Ukrainian drone attacks against Russian oil refineries, as contributing to the price hikes. The Saudi oil pipeline will mostly be out of service for weeks following an attack last week, two regional officials told The Associated Press.

The price for a barrel of Brent crude went above $109 on Monday morning.

“As you would expect, everything derived from a barrel of oil is being impacted in different ways,” De Haan said.

While Costco’s motor oil price hikes and sale limits may not impact you much, you may continue to feel pressure at the pump, especially if you drive a diesel vehicle.

The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline, as of Sept. 14, is $4.31, according to AAA. That’s well over the $3.17 per gallon average reported at this time last year.

Diesel, meanwhile, set a record on Monday, with a national average of $6.23, per AAA data. At this time last year, the national average was just under $3.70 per gallon.

Prices at the pump for diesel and regular gasoline closely follow that of crude oil.

With oil prices continuing to rise due to ongoing tension in the Middle East, oil companies stand to profit more from turning refined crude oil into diesel or gasoline than motor oil.

It remains to be seen if other motor oil retailers like Walmart, Amazon and AutoZone will boost their prices or set purchase limits. Walmart, Amazon and AutoZone did not immediately respond to requests for comment from The Associated Press.

I haven't been able to find T6 for my truck anywhere.

It cost me about $120 to top off my tank (38gal) at Costco.
It was at 1/4-3/8 tank. This is getting really old.
