We all did.

The reason is Lee Zeldin's EPA has repeatedly issued 20-day waivers to 40 C.F.R. § 1090.215 to allow the sale of high vapor pressure (aka winter) gasoline. First one began March 25th and the most recent one was June 9th.

It's one of the levers an administration can pull to help gasoline prices. In my 30 years in oil & gas, this is the first time I recall a nationwide EPA waiver for this long. It's really a credit to the Trump admin.

Paid $4.85 at Costco in CA.

On July 1 our governor's annual price hike through the Vehicle Fuel Tax kicks in.

Right now, it's 61.2 cents/gallon and next week, it will rise to 63.4 cents/gallon. It changes every July 1.

The overall taxes for gas on July 1 will be:

Federal Fuel Tax - 18.5 cents/gallon,

State Fuel Tax - 63.4 cents/gallon, and

Local Tax - Between 7.25 and 11.25 cents/gallon.

CA taxes the crap out of gas to force people to switch to electric cars but as more people do, the state is now seeing less tax revenue for roads, and it's exploring a mileage tax and/or higher registration fees for electric/hybrid cars.

Remember, Newsom wants to do for the nation what he's done for CA.

$4.49 at Costco this a.m. in Orange County, CA. The crazy thing is that Costco has lately been around 20 cents cheaper that the local Arco, which in turn is usually about 80 cents lower than the Chevron across from it.
