After WWII, my Dad went to college on the GI Bill and subsequently went to work for "Ole Man Douglas" (his reverent words). Non union, and my Dad was very happy. When Douglas merged with McDonnell, unions came with it. Dad had to deal with the union, and was pissed. When retirement time came, he was very happy. When they merged with Boeing (Brand "X", his words), he rolled over in his grave.
