Another big job loss for Washington state and unionized labor.

I amazes me that states like CA and WA fail to grasp that if you incentivize companies and wealthy individuals to leave, they will. I understand to draw to living in such amazing places, many of the states which are so unfriendly to successful people are incredibly beautiful and have amazing climates. The gilding is off that particular lily now. Sadly there are those who will lose considerable equity in real estate holdings as land values decrease. ____________________________ Yes, Para does appreciate humor.

It's a good time for Boeing to do this. If they aren't currently selling any planes (airlines will be cutting back for the foreseeable future) they can use the down time productively by moving future production to a more favorable location. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

My brother lives and works in Seattle. Several companies have moved out recently. He has been with the company he works for over thirty years and they have moved to Oregon. He is currently looking for a job and they are hard to find in Seattle.

So the solution to this situation according to Inslee the Lame, is not to organize or plan a negotiation with Boeing but to come out of the dugout swinging his nerf bat, Threaten 'em, ya, that'll do it. The Dim Gov, lege, (that's both houses) an activist AG, and a feckless Secretary of State who pretends to be an R but wants to go to the cool kids parties; Seattle and King County both waging tax war against capitalists because...never mind I can never figure them out other than they are practicing bolshevicks, now Boeing makes a move of about a thousand workers to take place in an uncertain future date and here we go. Seattle’s Congressional Rep Jayapal has been fomenting this decision by the Management team at Boeing on Twitter over the last few days.. ______________________________________________ Life is short. It’s shorter with the wrong gun…

Good for Boeing and SC. I recall when Boeing tried to do shift production before, the Obama/Biden Dept of Justice threatened Boeing with all sorts of legal challenges, "union busting" etc. and Boeing had to back down. No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

Yes, two years ago real estate prices in the Seattle area were going crazy. _________________________ “ What all the wise men promised has not happened, and what all the damned fools said would happen has come to pass.”— Lord Melbourne

BMW's only U.S. plant is in Spartunburg SC. The plant is BMW's major global production site for the X3, X4, X5, X6, and X7 crossover SUVs, and about 70% of the vehicles are exported. There are 11,000 jobs on-site. As long as Boeing and any transferred employees don't bring any Seattle-style political views with them . . .

Don't Panic |
Good move on Boeing's part. The Left thinks the geese that lay the golden eggs are stuck and have to take whatever the locals dish out.....but, you know, geese have wings.

I was born and raised in Seattle. It was a simply wonderful place in which to grow up in the 1950’s to the early 1970’s. It was a clean and safe city with such a tremendous variety of outdoor activities a short drive away. The politicians and the community respected Boeing for both its historical ties to the region and its importance to providing good paying jobs. As far as I know most all of the local radio stations announced the time as: 7:07; 7:27; 7:37; 7:47. When Boeing moved corporate to Chicago that seemed to be a clue that both local politicians and the union missed. Recently I went back to Seattle for a conference staying near the convention center. It’s a dump. Homeless all over the place; the city is dirty with a surprisingly unkempt look to it. Walking through the city at night the obvious divide in the manner of how life is lived was painful to see. I’ll never go back. Silent

No double standards |
Two common patterns. Seems the economies, living conditions, in liberal cities such as Seattle, Chicago, NY, San Francisco, much of Los Angeles, Detroit, are doing downhill notably more than in conservative cities. And it seems the politicians and bureaucrats in those liberal cities refuse to connect the decline with the policies. Unless and until they do so, the downhill slope will only get steeper. When it dies there, no constitution, no law, no court can save it....While it lies there, it needs no constitution, no law, no court to save it" - Judge Learned Hand, May 1944

... interesting Boeing news, we can likely guesstimate the why. Facebook and Amazon have both made major choices for Bellevue Spring District - the east side of Lake Washington. Don't remember the exact details or the article, but some 10,000 employees would be commuting to Bellevue; a traffic congestion nightmare for the eastside. I have spent time both in Seattle and Charleston. I agree with Silent, Seattle has gone down hill since the 1970s. I am glad I did not move there. On the other hand, North Charleston is a DANGEROUS place. That is where the manufacturing plant will be expanded. Maybe it is better during the day. The rest of Charleston is great, very cosmopolitan similar to New Orleans. Of course the execs are in Chicago. I am sure the taxes and the fact that South Carolina is a right to work state figured in the equation.

CA used to have a robust aerospace industry all through the 20th Century, 2015 marked an end of an era, as the final C-17 took off from Boeing's Long Beach factory. While Lockheed, Northrop and Boeing continue to have a presence in CA, open-source, commercial and non-classified production lines are no longer around. Boeing has been a fixture in and around the Puget Sound region for close to 100-yrs, its facilities, airfields and subcontractors dot the entire area. Boeing is certainly guilty of a series of poor decisions over the last 20yrs (Douglas acquisition, Chicago move, 737MAX, KC-46, industrial espionage, etc) however, this is on the State of Washington and its elected officials, who have no interest nor, understanding of basic economics, and developing adversarial relationships with large employers.

The jig is up. It go real today when Boeing confirmed. Our Governor, the democrats and the Unions overplayed they're hand years ago. It's now payback time and Boeing is going to move its 787 to SC. Smaller domino's will fall this year and next. Many Aerospace employees in the Northwest are going to re-imagine their careers starting this week. Our Governor wants to threaten Boeing over this decision. Fine. Perhaps Boeing should sell everything at the Everett facilities to Amazon who can make it into a giant Amazon warehouse, rebrand the buildings "Prime Air" and turn Paine Field into a working "Prime Air" air base maintained by Snohomish County.
