Step by step walk the thousand mile road

As many of the members know last year I was hospitalized with an infection of Clostridium difficile that very nearly killed me. A month-long stay in intensive care undergoing treatment for this infection caused serious wasting of my muscles. So much so that once I was discharged to the rehab facility I was incapable of even standing on my own.

Fast forward four months, and today I undertook my first relatively long-distance walk without a walker. I use trekking poles to help with my balance but they don't really support any weight.

I even managed a difficult decision to leave the walker at home so I did not have it to use as an emotional or psychological crutch. Instead I forced myself to take a somewhat risky walk using only my trekking poles.

I cannot tell you how satisfying this experience has been. I've managed to take a step forward in my recovery, a step I feared would never come.

To everyone here and in my non-digital life who helped me medically, monetarily, physically, or spiritually, I again give my deepest thanks.

Good on you brother. Feel damn good. Lots of folks get to where you were and don't have the fortitude to make it back. Great Job!

Great job. CDiff nearly took my aunt 2 years ago. Keep pushing and knock out that rehab. For her its like it never even happened now. But that was a hell of a long road.

For now enjoy the small victories, they will add up!

Good on you for pushing through and not giving up and for having the strength to take that risk. Couldn't have been easy.
