Our outdoor griddle suffered some rusting after it's vinyl cover tore in a storm. After I remove the rust, what oil would work best to help recondition and season it? Thanks.

Matt

I like the way you think.

You'll want to avoid sugar, so be careful what bacon you use.

I use crisco, avocado oil, or the Blackstone seasoning. They all work well.

I just use cheap vegetable oil. Bacon grease is too valuable.

Because of its high smoke point I use avocado oil on my cast iron cookware.

That’s the seasoning I used as recommended by the manufacturer of my char grill griller.

Animal fats have been seasoning iron cookware for a few thousand years, long before the fancy foo-foo oils of today.

Lard or tallow for me.

Avacado oil.
Use it on my Weber and am happy with the results.

I use peanut oil to season my cast iron and wok. I only don’t use avocado oil because I might feed something to my birds. I do have a griddle/cast iron seasoning product that I have not tried yet.

I've been using canola/veg oil on the cast iron pans for like 20 years. It's been good enough for me. For cast grill parts, I'll warm them and apply crisco. Cooking bacon seems to a good sealer on completely scoured and re-seasoned after a round or 2 of oils

Avocado oil as well, Publix sells their generic brand so it's not to terribly expensive and a little goes a long way.
