I can't relate to anyone getting paid big bucks for playing a sport. I only watch football or basketball when its near the championship and I'm vaguely familiar or interested in one of the teams.

I watch car races, golf, etc for the crashes and balls in the water.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Professional Sports? Most of the players (thugs) disgust me.
Hockey is about the only professional sport where I have a slight interest.

Totally agree.

Listen, it is entertainment guys plain and simple. To Call all the participants thugs is silly.
To critisize those that like it or watch it is silly also.

One could easily make a case that what you do for entertainment is silly or stupid or drains your soul or whatever. I mean come on. Fine if you do not like it do not like someone for something they do on the field or off it. so be it.

But there is a lot of things that people do that rub people the wrong way. Including getting paid huge amounts of money for what they do.

There are way more professional athletes that go unnoticed that do great things for a lot of people and great cause's than the contrary.

So I get it that you do not like sports and do not spend any time watching or supporting.
Maybe you are not athletic or like competition or do not like an athlete. I dislike a boat load of them. But to come on here and belittle those that do enjoy it say's a lot about you.

I used to follow pro basketball during the 80s, then started to lose interest for a couple of years, then stopped watching altogether. Haven't watched in over 25 years. I once followed the NFL for several years in the 80s, then stopped.

I used to follow pro cycling, then Lance Armstrong ruined it for me. I do not watch or follow any pro or college sports whatsoever.

Don't give a rat's ass about sports, don't know much about them, couldn't tell you any of the players, don't know and I don't want to know.

Years ago, a friend of mine was so obsessed with sports, he could not walk out the house when his teams were playing, without repeatedly going in and out checking the games on tv. Football and basketball. Two sports I dislike.

This was in the 60's-70's.

I swore I would never get like that. Too much else going on in life.

Yawn. Yeah, count me out too.

Honestly, before the kneeling thing completely drove me away, I was getting to the same point. Certain games with certain officiating crews really became unbearable. I think one game the Ravens had 20 some penalties. It was brutal. And now, any big hit draws a 15 yard penalty. ANY big hit, I don't care if the defender leads with the shoulder or not. It's really a terrible product compared to what it was 10 or 20 years ago.

From what I am reading, it isn't getting any better. I guess in one of the playoff games (that I didn't watch) the officiating was really bad, I saw a headline on my phone about it.

Look up Lorenzo Alexander and tell me they are all thugs. This guy gives back to the community, is one of the most humble guys in the league, and "gets it".

He left DC years ago, still comes back to the area and does charity.

His Twitter handle is something like OneManGang because he was an undrafted free agent, played like seven different positions (on offense, defense, and special teams) just to make the team against all odds for years. If I had a team of 22 Lorenzo's I'd be a happy guy (maybe toss in there one franchise QB too).

I've always been a car and gun guy and nobody in my office seems to like either.

Am I alone on Sig Forum as a guy who knows fuck all about professional sports players, statistics, etc?

I'm that guy in my office. Guns, motorsports & cycling for me.
