I first donned a uniform in July 1989 at the age of 18. Today, I commenced terminal leave after having the privilege to wear the cloth of our republic one final time! It was a helluva ride and I thank each and everyone of you for the opportunity! Now on to retirement — Godspeed and Good Hunting y'all!

Congratulations!

I joined at 17 and retired at 37. In all of the jobs I've had since then, none provided the satisfaction of those 20 years.

Gentlemen, thank you. For clarification, 30 years as a Surface Warfare Officer in our Navy. Turned over command of my Task Force last month and completed administrative details in Norfolk today. My bride and I are headed to Maine and looking for a place at the end of a long dirt road. Might have to track down that old goat PHPaul and splice the mainbrace while swapping sea stories. Regardless, the new book begins today!

Congratulations. 30 years. You went the full length.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.
