I agree with you guys. Brandt Jean is doing something I don't know I would be able to do were in his situation.

A tremendous example.

A fine human being, the brother.
Everybody in the court was wiping their eyes.
The judge later followed his example and is being criticised for that.
Just a tragedy in every respect.

The emotions and drama in that courtroom were stark and hard hitting. Anyone that watched the events unfold and was not moved by them are soulless in my opinion. Even the courtroom deputy, a black woman, was moved to the point that she came from behind Guyger and adjusted her hair for her. I only saw that part on Fox this morning.

I saw it and felt it was a genuine act of forgiveness and kindness.

I'm floored whenever I see this kind of love. Thirteen years ago yesterday-- October 2, 2006-- a psychotic killer went into an Amish school just a few miles from where I lived then. A one room country school house. He let the little boys go, and then he shot little Amish girls, lined them up and shot them in the head, ten of them.

That afternoon, some of the parents of the girls went to visit the
killer's family, who were neighbours, and told them that they forgave him, and bore no ill will toward anyone in the family. They
hugged, prayed, and wept together.
Sheesh. What can you say? I tear up just thinking about it. That horrible event put on display the whole range of what it means to be human, from the demonic to the divine.

Whatever you think of that officer, when he asks to hug her, and she rushes to him, sobbing....

When I watched that video the incident you describe was the first thing I thought of. God bless them, the young man in the video and all who have been able to embrace the teachings of Christ’s forgiveness. I am not a good Christian, I would have difficulty doing such a thing, it would probably be an impossibility for me.

Joy Behar. That soulless bitch just couldn't help herself. After shitting on a genuine Christian act of faith and love where she openly disagreed with the brother for forgiving Guyger, she then proceeded to ponder out loud if there has ever been an instance where a white victim ever hugged a black person. I kid you not. Nasty woman. Way to crap on a moment.

Wow. This person is a superb human being. Outstanding. It's a mess, plain and simple. It's still awful. I doubt I'm as strong as this man.

I agree fully with the comments about this video from Para and several of the members. I took a few other things from the extended news version that I saw at home.

The court deputy who followed her was stoic until he faded from frame, when he appears again as she walks back to the table he is visibly moved. I take that a clear indication of the power and the true nature of the emotions exchanged in that hug. I saw true remorse and sorrow in Guyger and absolute forgiveness and caring in the victims brother.

The other take away was the exact opposite emotional environment that existed on the other side of the inch thick doors. The rage and anger at the 10 sentence by those with no personal involvement in the case. The irony that the brother of the victim would, if given the power, would have set her free and the crowd out side, if given the power, would have sent her away for life.

There are many lessons that resulted from this tragic incident, yet I fear only a few will take stock of what was presented when it was all over.

The beauty and simplicity of faith in action.

I bet the feeling of the forgiveness he's had from God is palpable in him.

Makes me wonder if he's the embodiment of I John 4:19-20:

"19 We love because He first loved us.

20 If anyone says, “I love God,” but hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen . . .
"

Seems to get harder and more complicated the older we get.

By the way, the Judge's actions remind us why we termed the next step as incarceration in a penitentiary or reformatory.

. . . so people could repent and reform to emerge as changed persons.

That's why Alexis de Tocqueville was so astonished while studying our system of redemptive justice.

In my opinion, that is what guts and courage are all about. What that man did was incredible and should serve as a testament to all of us.

Touching thoughts and comments from the young man. Deeply affected, he has forgiven as Christ wants us to do. I’m praying for him, his family, and Ms. Guyger as they move on with their lives. Thanks for sharing this.

"Preach the Gospel, and if necessary, use words". Supposedly a quote by Saint Francis.
This young man demonstrated his faith in ways we can only hope we would act in similar circumstance.
