My apologies, as I know the original thread was closed. I’m not trying to re-open discussion of the incident or trial, but found this incredibly moving. Para, please close/delete if I’m out of line.

This is one of the most powerful statements I've ever heard. I bet his words and actions lifted a HUGE weight from Guyger's shoulders. This young man is an awesome example!

Myself, I perceive the sentence is probably just.

You can say what you what about her and what she did.

Cannot deny his heart. God bless him. And hope you takes his advice and she can come out the other side.

Something very good out of such a tragedy.

That is exactly what Christ commands of us. Following Jesus' example isn't hard to understand, but it can be very hard to do.

What Brandt Jean did in that video is unfathomably hard, but I cannot imagine a better, stronger example of Christ's love in action.

Agreed. What an incredibly difficult thing to do, but what an awesome testimony. My hat is off to this young man.

Amen to that! I hope the world takes notice to such amazing grace. That young man is one fine example of Christ's love, I pray she chooses His way.

Learning to forgive regardless of contrition or sorrow from my trespasser was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life to date. That was a ten year learning process. Because of that I understand and admire this young man.

I'm reopening this thread. The original thread was locked, and threads which are locked and then started up again in a new thread, are locked also. I do this automatically, as a matter of policy. I locked it without reading it. I had not bothered until now to watch the video at the top of this thread. Had I done so before, I would not have locked this thread,

What we see in the words and actions of this young man are the teachings of Christ in action. C.S. Lewis pointed out the hypocrisy of many so-called Christians, who sit in the pew on Sunday and speak of love and forgiveness, and then in the course of their lives day-to-day do not practice their supposed beliefs with their neighbor.
I have lived on this rock long enough to have developed a good sense of when I am hearing the truth, and the words and actions of this young man who lost his brother so needlessly- this was the truth. This was not public posturing. He even said that he had not intended to reveal his feelings to anyone, not even his own family, and implicit in this public statement is that he was moved by the power of Christ. This young man is a true Christian. Very moving and very powerful, what he said and what he did. Also, I have to say that if his brother was anything like him, the world is less without his brother in it.

The judge was moved by this as well, hugging the now-convicted officer, and giving her a bible. It appears that all involved in this case sense the genuine tragedy of it all around, and that the officer is truly remorseful.

Having said that, I also have to say that it angers me to hear those not directly affected by this incident to say "We have not received justice." Just who are these people say such a thing? Their motivations and agenda are clear. I would say that these people should be ashamed of themselves but they are consumed by their hate and would not hear me.

All of this is very important in the world as it exists in 2019. I am like many of you- completely fed up with the state of things, and ready to take up the rifle and become the beast spoken of by Machiavelli, who said that such becomes necessary when lawful means fail. But- and I am saying this as much to myself as to anyone reading my words- if we could adopt the attitude displayed by this young man, the world would be so much better. Life would be so much more pleasant and fulfilling and joyful. The problem, of course, is that such an attitude would have to be adopted near universally by the people of the world, and this appears to be an impossibilty.

Nevertheless...

The quality of mercy is not strained;
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest;
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes:
'T is mightiest in the mightiest; it becomes
The throned monarch better than his crown:
His sceptre shows the force of temporal power,
The attribute to awe and majesty,
Wherein doth sit the dread and fear of kings;
But mercy is above this sceptred sway;
It is enthronèd in the hearts of kings,
It is an attribute to God himself;
And earthly power doth then show likest God's
When mercy seasons justice.

William Shakespeare, The Merchant of Venice

I saw this video yesterday from the courtroom - several internet Texas lawyer's groups I follow have been actively following this case.

It was one of the most remarkable things I have seen.

I don't think one can fully heal until one forgives. I hope it also gives Guyger a start on healing and redemption.

More than few times, I have seen a family member of some victim stand in a court of law and say to the guilty party "I forgive you." More than once, I have had a strong sense that they were saying this as a form of what we now refer to as virtue signalling, and that in their heart, there really was no forgivness. But, to listen to the measured words of this young man, and to watch him nervously tug at his collar- well, it's clear that he has gone through quite an internal struggle, and it's clear that he was speaking the truth.

I never thought Andrea G. had any malice or bad intent. However she has life lessons to learn and a few years in jail is what she may need. Also if her sentence was very low, others in a similar situation might be emboldened to shoot first and ask questions later. Hopefully this tragic story is heard or read by millions, sparing others of a repeat event.

I had read the headline about what he did but never viewed the video until now. That man knows scripture and more importantly lives by it. He embodies what Christ calls us to be. Only through Christ could he have forgiven the person that took his brothers life.

Very moving, very genuine and very much needed in this day and age.

Watched yesterday but the thread was closed. Para, thanks for opening it up again. It gives me hope for humanity that there are many people like this fine young man. What a great example of a great human being. I don't know if I could have displayed what he did were I in his shoes.

Sadly, Brandt Jean has been criticized by many for doing this.

Who in the hell is anyone to judge how this man should feel? How incredibly presumptuous.

I'm floored whenever I see this kind of love. Thirteen years ago yesterday-- October 2, 2006-- a psychotic killer went into an Amish school just a few miles from where I lived then. A one room country school house. He let the little boys go, and then he shot little Amish girls, lined them up and shot them in the head, ten of them.

That afternoon, some of the parents of the girls went to visit the killer's family, who were neighbours, and told them that they forgave him, and bore no ill will toward anyone in the family. They hugged, prayed, and wept together.

Sheesh. What can you say? I tear up just thinking about it. That horrible event put on display the whole range of what it means to be human, from the demonic to the divine.

Whatever you think of that officer, when he asks to hug her, and she rushes to him, sobbing....

I'm a Christian and find that I am often too judgmental & too critical of others.

This young man did more for the Cause of Christ than I've even thought of doing, and probably more than many of the sermons that will be preached this Sunday.
