Last time I was in N.Z. the whites stayed far away from the Maoris and vice versa. So one day, I chatted up some local Maoris and couldn't have found a friendlier, more pleasant group to talk to. All well spoken, easy to get along with, great sense of humor and so on. Frankly, I found myself liking them better than white people. (I'm a white guy) To be fair, the white N.Z.'s are friendly as hell too. So, I'm not knocking them. I just couldn't understand why they weren't mixing. Sadly, the local whites and Maoris could be closer, but I guess avoiding each other is ingrained. It saddened the hell out of me. | |||
