Classic spring "up-slope" snow dump. We're in the 48-60" path. Should be a fun weekend! Gassed up, chained up... bring it on!

We got snow last night, after a 60° day. Snow is in the forecast everyday through Monday, the 15th. I hope it’s widespread, we need the moisture out here after a horrific fire season last summer and fall.

The last time we got a 4 foot dump, the weather patterns for the year were JUST like the ones we've had. It was in late may also. I really could do without a 4 foot dump of snow over memorial day weekend. I woke up to 5" from last night, which was better than the 7" they predicted, but another 2-3" is supposed to come this afternoon along with winds that will blow it into all the shoveled and cleared places.

The problem we're facing right now, is that we've run out of places to put it. There's still another 1.5 months of snow season left, and I have nowhere left to put the rest of the snow.

Been a few years since I ran out of room, had to move snow with a skidsteer. Learning experience that first season it happened!

We've been in this location for 5 years now, and after running out the first year, we've started the dumps further and further back. This year I was able to pile it twice as high, and an extra 20 feet back. We still ran out of room. We got that much more snow this year. Crazy.

I didn't realize this weekend's storm might be so large, until co-workers told me this morning. If the jet stream progresses along one possible path, Colorado's front-range mountains could get hammered with snow. Some forecasters state that it might get ugly in Denver and to the east, also.

Most of Colorado is suffering from a bad drought, therefore we need the moisture. All at once -- not so much. Our family ranch is in the plains, and the land is about as dry as I've seen it this time of year. For personal reasons, I really don't want a monster one-and-done snow dump. Two years ago in March our land was pounded with 24" of white concrete in just under a day. Then hit with multiple weekends of 50-80 mph winds. Our many acres of pine forest lands took it in the shorts. Over the past two years, most of my weekends were spent with chainsaws, chipping away at the downed branches and broken trees.

I'm now working in the hardest hit area of our land. I documented the worst 5+ acres with pictures. This section of the forest has our younger, smaller trees. Generally 30-40 feet tall, with trunks 6-14" in diameter. The cattle have basically refused to walk through this area for the past two years.

There are older trees on the ground here, too, from storms more than 10 years ago. I don't really want any more "help" from mother nature, when it comes putting more trees and branches on the ground.

I noticed this year the local news didn't dramatize every single snow fall like they usually do. I'm not sure if it was because they new way less people were on the roads or there was plenty of other things to talk about this year.

Wow, that area and Poudre Canyon to the north were badly burned over last summer and into the fall. Runoff will be a bitch. Agree Fritz, a monster one-and-done dump is not helpful to anyone. While we are expecting significant snowfall over the next 6 days up here, it appears that the total amount will be 2’ or less, accompanied by above freezing daytime highs.

We are looking to get 18" South of Denver. That's a little better than the 26" they were forecasting last night.

I agree the big dumps are not good, especially for the areas that burned out last year. I have to admit though that these big storms is one thing I like about living here.

Some of my more memorable ones are March 2003 and December 2006 up in NoCo.

It appears that Denver weatherman is the ONLY one predicting anything like that. Every forecast I checked in the vicinity: Estes, Grand Lake, Red Feather Lakes, had a forecast similar to ours. Doesn’t look like anybody exceeds 2’ in total over the next 5 dsys.

That's my current stomping grounds! Was that the March 2003 storm?

I think they are backing off the forecasts from yesterday. Kathy Sabine on 9News (who is awful) said about 14" for Conifer and Evergreen. I dunno, I think that's a little on the low side, but time will tell I guess.

The March 2003 storm was massive. I got 36" at my place in Denver. They got just over 5 feet where I live now. About 6 - 7 feet at the top of Conifer Mountain, next to Aspen Park.

I got the plow on and I am as ready as I can be! I only plow my driveway and a 1/4 mile long private road 2 houses up.
