My brother was supposed to fly to Denver today and then drive to Beaver Creek. Once he found out about the I-70 closure at Loveland starting tonight he was able to postpone until Monday.

From one of the last Snowpocalypes, about 4ft. I was signed up to shoot a PRS match in Nebraska that weekend. No way I was leaving my wife home by herself with the forecast. A few friends shot the match, 30-50mph winds, sleet.... they had a miserable time. Glad it snow to get me out of the match!

Got the Jeep stuck, dropped over an edge. Bobcat to the rescue!

Wimpy....It was a great match.
- Saturday temps in the low 30s.
- Winds started around 20mph, then increased to 30-35 for me on the ridges later in the day. Wind holds were nutty. Other shooters stated they measured even higher wind speeds.
- Sustained rainfall, changing to sleet & snow after lunch.
- Mud everywhere. Inside & outside my full goretex layers, including the heavy fleece underneath. The soggy cowpies at prone stages were an added treat.
- I really didn't feel the cold in my fingers & toes....because I couldn't feel a frickin' thing by the end of the day.
- We needed windshield wipers on eye glasses and optics. Spotters couldn't see targets, so they sometimes relied on "tings on steel" to confirm hits. Yeah right, in howling winds.
- Sunday's portion of the match was cancelled, due to even colder temps and a nice blanket of snow on the ground.

What more could a person want from a rifle match?

I sure wish we could get some more of that in Utah, or anywhere in the Colorado watershed, for that matter. I'm tired of this prolonged drought. We need some serious weather to get out of 2020, the driest year in Utah's recorded history.

Maybe! Wife and I are going to roam around Wyoming this summer, look at land. I traveled Wyoming for my job in the winter for several years, know what it's all about. Once stuck in Chugwater for 36hrs when I25 closed because of snow/wind. Shot long range rifle matches at the Otto Road range outside of Cheyenne, held .3 mils of wind at 100yds.

Loaded this Tirfor winch in my plow truck, this almost guarantees I won't get stuck. If I didn't have it...

Not the SnowMaggeden we were warned about...

Respectible amount for a little less then 24hrs. 48" pipe slipped over a piece of driven rebar. High tech gadgetry right there! Add another two inches or so from the pictured reading.

Thinks it’s turned into it for us. Don’t believe we got the 18” of snow they were saying but we have blizzard conditions which they did not talk about.

It’s nasty out there...

My sister says 33" near Evergreen -- west of Denver. Wind is howling in Denver, and tough to tell how much snow has fallen so far.

So this happened.

No hot water from our tankless water heater this morning. After watching it for awhile it became apparent that it was cycling on-and-off. There was a faint smell of gas in the furnace room.

As many have probably diagnosed by now, the intake and exhaust pipes outside were compromised by the deep snow. Funny thing is that they weren’t blocked completely, but they apparently need free air space below the pipes to function. Working fine now. BTW, we’ve experienced many heavy, wind drifted snowstorms before, never had this happen.

This advice applies to any high efficiency gas water heater or furnace. There is a sensor in the intake and exhaust that will prevent operation if there is any blockage.

Then this. The external vent to our range hood is on the N side of the house. I could tell when I turned it on that something was wrong; it was much louder than normal. Snow had packed the vent. Soon water was dripping out of the hood onto the stovetop. This we’ve experienced before. Our contractor said run the vent fan and it will clear up. It did.

Our basement window well on the north side is full up to the top of the window. We have a drift behind our garage doors (south side) of at least 4’. Doors drifted in. Backyard snow level with covered patio. Luckily, we have great neighbors and mine next door has a skid steer from work in his barn right now.

The weather guessers were off on the effects. Yesterday we had only a couple of inches of snow on the ground. Today, we have 25+ winds and blowing snow. I don't know if it's still snowing now, but we have a good foot on the shed roof and drifts of 2+ feet.

All is good, I really like the moisture!

16-20 inches here. Wouldn't be so bad if they could just get the electric power restored.

They are saying we received 26” total but our power stayed on. Do t think we’ll be getting any juice from our solar panels this week.

Time to bust out the shovel...... ugh

Couple pictures of the road I plow. 2nd picture kind of hard to tell, plow left to right. Try throw the snow as far over the edge as possible, get most of the snow off the road. 2nd to the last pass on the edge I'll drive 25-30mph and really get the snow flying staying a couple feet away from the trees. Can see the thrown snow up higher on the tree trunks above the bank.

That's my current stomping grounds! Was that the March 2003 storm?

I think they are backing off the forecasts from yesterday. Kathy Sabine on 9News (who is awful) said about 14" for Conifer and Evergreen. I dunno, I think that's a little on the low side, but time will tell I guess.

The March 2003 storm was massive. I got 36" at my place in Denver. They got just over 5 feet where I live now. About 6 - 7 feet at the top of Conifer Mountain, next to Aspen Park.

I got the plow on and I am as ready as I can be! I only plow my driveway and a 1/4 mile long private road 2 houses up.

Yup the 2003 one...
