ArtieSI need a couple of spare bcgs
As stated, I need some spares. Is PSA OK, or should I buy once, cry once and go with someone else. I'm not an AR fanatic, (I only have 4 of them) and will likely be carting an FAL if shtf.

ARmanPSA BCGs are just fine. They are mostly what I have used, them or ToolCraft.

oddballI don't anything about PSA parts, but I have always been partial to
Bravo Company bolt carrier groups, two of my ARs have 'em, plus I have a backup. My other AR has an LMT one.

GreymannI have no experience with psa, so I went with BCM. Good steel, mpi and staked well. I'm in the buy once, cry once club.

jljonesMy recommendation would be BCM. The rest of the replacement small parts I get from wherever. But, bolts and BCG’s come from Bravo. Their track record is worth the few extra bucks.

fritzWilson Combat makes great BCGs -- I have them in most of my AR15s. The WC website currently has them on sale for 20% off.

I'm more a shotgun/pistol guy. I only have one AR rifle, a Sig M400 5.56 NATO, which I bought not too long ago. It's fun to shoot but I'm much more accurate with my scoped bolt action Browning 30.06 hunting rifle at anything over 50 yards or so.
I want the AR 15 type rifle to be "good to go" if/when I need it... but I haven't had any failures in the limited amount I've fired it at the range and haven't really considered the need for "spare" parts.

SpeedbirdThanks for the tip! Life happens, so have not had much free time to shoot this past year, but looking to change that in 2024. Given the sale, figure it's time to secure a back-up or replacement while the getting is good.
I have a bone stock Colt M4, (No complaints) and a PSA DMR style I assembled myself w/ a 18" heavy barrel and "Premium [PSA] Toolcraft Nickel Boron coated BCG". Have not shot it much but honestly, I wish it was a little more accurate...

Price for 3 similar WC MILSPEC BCGs are about the same; Black Nitride / Phosphate / Nickel Boron... What is the difference between these?o What would the group recommend?
o Would swapping out the PSA Toolcraft Nicke BCG with one of these options in theory improve accuracy of my DMR? (Might go go this way and use the Toolcraft one as my back-up

It’s not that the bolt carrier itself fails, but rather the parts the carrier holds can fail and swapping a complete BCG is much simpler and quicker than tearing a BCG down and replacing the broken parts. If you have a little time, a spare bolt assembly, firing pin, and firing pin retaining pin are all you probably need.

It won't do much for accuracy unless the bolt is out of spec.
As far as coatings and whatnot..
NP3, chrome or phosphate is the best options.
Nitride, NiB and such will have looser tolerances due to it being a surface treatment and not a coating like NP3 or chrome and be less efficient gas wise and can wear faster as well.
The nitrided ones I swapped out were quite a bit looser where it mattered than the phosphate, NP3 and chrome ones I have.

gjgalliganI guess I need a little learning on this subject. I understand having some spare parts but with only 3 ARs , 2-5.56 & 1-9mm. I don't shoot mine as much as many of you but why would you need 2 or more BCG for spares?
Do they wear out that often?
What is a reasonable number of rounds lifetime should I expect out each original BCG?
Integrity is doing the right thing, even when nobody is looking.

powermadI don't see a need for a complete BCG but wound up with them when I replaced them with "better".
I replaced the extractor spring with a BCM spring kit in the bolts, keep a complete BCG in a drawer and a bolt, FP and retaining pin in my range bag tool kit in the off chance that a lug shears or something like that.

When they had a blow out sale earlier this year, as pointed out by someone here on SF (thanks), I bought two WC BCG's for $99 each!
