It's a Yellow Rat snake. They are common on the coastal plain from about mid NC to Florida.

SuppressedCool pic! My neighbor killed a black rat snake and shortly afterward, he had a mole problem in his yard. I don't know if it was just a coincidence, but I kid him about it and suggest to him to let the snakes live.

GT-40DOCI need a few of those seen in the OP around my place. The packrats are very plentiful around here.
