It's a Yellow Rat snake. They are common on the coastal plain from about mid NC to Florida.

| Cool pic! My neighbor killed a black rat snake and shortly afterward, he had a mole problem in his yard. I don't know if it was just a coincidence, but I kid him about it and suggest to him to let the snakes live. |

I don't know what would compel him to kill a rat snake. They are protected here in Georgia.
