Not sure if this is a rant or just something to pass along. An older lady came to my door to talk to us about Democrat Lauren Baer (who is running for congress in my state) and how good she will be for us in Congress. I told her my wife and I are both Republicans. She wanted to say a few things anyway about how Baer is fighting for the working man/woman. I said really, how much are my taxes going to go up? She said people making over a certain amount should be paying more. I asked how much more but she would not give an exact number but rattled off something about people making over a million should pay 90% tax of anything they make over that. Eek. I said what about her wanting free college for everyone but she said Baer is only talking about community college for those that can't afford it. I told her that is not what she is campaigning for. I played along a little more and I asked her to tell me where the nearest community college was in my county. She could not say as she is not familiar with the area,(ie. we don't have one). I asked her how can you vouch for a candidate and try to sway sway votes for a demographic she knows nothing about? This went on for quite a while and we touched over universal healthcare ( like in Canada) and how everyone should have it. I asked her how much the taxes were in Canada for this. She could not tell me but I responded taxes are the biggest expense Canadians have between federal, provincial, healthcare,etc.. Not only that, they don't have the population we do. It is amazing the stupid that pours out of their mouths. She was uninformed but still volunteering for the idiot. They really do have mental issues.

I've said it before, those people scare the hell out of me, no matter what their political leanings are.

I wish I knew offhand how effective it tends to be to go from door to door. The county GOP here is doing that and was looking for volunteers; I decided to pass just because I'm beginning to suspect that people here tend to see that as intrusive.

I once worked for one of the baby bells, a mostly union shop. Two of their volunteers came to my house to tell me how the union supported the liberal dem that was running for President and that as a loyal union member I would probably want to take their advice and vote for him. I hadn’t been a union member for roughly 5 years. Of course one smelled of bourbon and the other of beer. I told them to hit the road. Then I called up their “boss” and told him I just prevented his two volunteers from being arrested for public intoxication and to make sure they never showed up anywhere near my home again.

The “DAY SLEEPER DO NOT DISTURB” sign on my door seems to work pretty well. The Communists democrats sending me texts urging me to vote for their socialist candidate are pissing me off, though.

Never understood people who answer their door for unexpected visitors. Absolutely no good can come from it. My doorbell is broken and I will never fix it.

My understanding is... fairly effective ( listening to those that have run campaigns). Plus, you get much, much better information about the mood on the street, targeted by street even. Where $$ should be spent, where it’s wasted. Much better than poll sampling.

I don't tolerate people who enter my private property to peddle politics or religion or who are trying to sell me something. They are politely asked to leave. Once.

I've had my neighbors come over unannounced before. They usually bring me treats when I do nice things for them. What about Scouts selling cookies or popcorn? Ever had to sign for a package?

I don't understand the mentality of people not answering their door.

By their very nature, leftists are irrational because their positions are irrational.

Since we fenced in 5 of our 6 acres with 6ft no climb, the front door is now inside of the dogs' area. I did install a remote doorbell on the gate nearest the door (about 50ft away from the door), but somehow a pair of 130lb dogs barking at you from inside the gate keeps most of strangers from even ringing it. We don't get many, anyway, usually the 7th Day Adventists twice a year, or scam salesmen (pave your driveway, cheap). The only ones who do ring the bell are delivery folks needing a signature, or people who are expected, and most of them know the dogs and know them to be friendly. Even the regular delivery folks and contractors know the dogs and are welcomed by them.

I along with my Brothers and nephews have been going fishing in Canada for decades and have seen the taxes imposed to pay for the "free" healthcare. Besides sales tax they have GST(good and services),pst(provincial tax) and the ever gas tax. We just returned two weeks ago and gas on average was .90 cents a liter,5 liters to a gallon 4.50 an imperial gallon. They no longer return out of country visitors their GST and PST tax paid in Canada like they had in the past. Free is never free and there is no such thing as a free lunch.

If I don't know you and I am expecting no one, I simply do not answer the door.

Try it

I know when packages are getting delivered and I can see the truck drive up to the house. I work from home and am on the phone and Skype for most of the day. I don't have time or patience for any uninvited visitors other than signing for packages I ordered and know are coming. If I decided to indulge in sugar and carbs, Mrs. Lee can always buy the Girl Scout cookies her coworkers sell in the office. All my neighbors know how to reach me and they all know it's not by knocking on my front door.

I can see who is at my door, without having to open it or look through the blinds. Again, if I don't recognize you and I am not expecting anyone, you're just shit out of luck.

This is the world we live in.

I've twice made an exception to this rule- both times were when people were insistent in knocking and ringing the bell. In both instances, they were surprised at a man stepping out from the side of the house with his right hand behind his back. Fixed that shit PDQ, both times.

This is how I always answer my door, out the garage and behind my truck with an H&K behind my back. And the wife is inside with her Sig.

Well, bear your comparison in mind. Like polls, the people who respond to door-to-door campaigning are self-selected. In other words, you're more apt to get political enthusiasts who are more likely to be interested in politics in general rather than developing a sense of what the community as a whole is like. And in both cases, response tends to be pitifully limited.

OTOH, one refrain heard time and again in the aftermath of failed campaigns is "no one asked me for my vote".
