DING DING DING Winner!! Smile

I don’t always carry a gun and I have never needed a gun, which I thank God for but I digress.

I do ALWAYS have a light and a blade and both get used damn near daily and I can’t count the number of times I’ve heard “Why do you have a knife and or light?” Only to be followed within days with a sheepish …”can I use your knife and or light?”

Pretty much the same for me, but it was my great grandfather.

I usually carry two knives. Today it is a Victorinox small chisel grind knife, and an Emerson Super Commander, also with a chisel grind edge.

Doesn’t everyone? If not, why not?

In work clothes, on the ranch, I may only carry one. When going to town, generally carry two. Better to have it and not need it…

Because I've carried a knife every day of my life since I was ten years old. Even to school, never had a problem. TSA rules and stadium or arena rules fucking suck. I feel naked without it.

During the covid lockdown I went into the Kaiser Pharmacy to pick up some prescriptions. There was a female security guard at the door. She must have seen my pocket clip when I was getting my temperature taken. She tried to make me hand over my knife to her. I told her, no thanks, I'll just hang on to that. She stood there and stared at me while I was in the line and followed me to the door when I left.

I have never been asked the question but if I am, I have a ready answer to make them scratch their heads pondering it.

Gosh, I've been carrying a pocket knife since I was around 12 years old. No one had to tell me to carry one, it just dawned on me that it was a really smart thing to do.

I have never used my knife for anything that it was not designed for...cutting.

I've carried a knife ever since I was a little kid, and it gets used every day. If I didn't carry one in my pocket, then I'd have to go find one when I need it.

My reasons have all been covered.

So I have it when I need it.

Often something needs to be cut or opened.

I use to have a great Swiss Army knife and had it with me all the time. At my age now my fingernails became brittle and I could not open it without breaking a thumb nail. I replace it with an assisted opening knife. It's always in my pocket. I would say it gets daily use. Goddamn plastic seals on everything today and I just can't tear them open without a knife.

I don't know why this made me giggle. I can picture someone kneeling with a 3" old timer LMAO.
That's not even a funny scene but it makes me laugh.

I have since I was 10 years old and that was some 63 years ago. Habits die hard. I didn’t figure out how to truly sharpen it until I was about 15 and my knives stay sharp to this day.

The OP got me to thinking and reading some of the other posts I realized that I have carried a pocket knife since I was old enough to wear pants that had pockets in them. The Victorinox Tinker has been my knife of choice for many, many years.

My ex-wife used to roll her eyes and question why I always needed to carry a knife, flashlight, and gun.

Until she needed to find something in a dark area, then it was "Let me see your flashlight".

Or she needed to cut something, then it was "Can I borrow your knife?"

Or she felt uncomfortable somewhere, then it was "You have your gun on you, right?"

So she thought it was "weird" that I carried those, unless of course she needed one of them. Roll Eyes
