I know this can likely vary based upon location and options.
4 windows 31”W x 57”H
US made vinyl window, double hung, both top and bottom swing in for cleaning. Some sort of glass coating (that is escaping me at the moment).
$1700 for full removal, disposal, install, new casings, trim.

This is in very rural southern Ky.

Sounds fair to me given they are total replacements, case, and trim work.

The replacement windows I bought were better/best grade, not full best. And cost about $200 each. I still had to get someone to cap them. So yeah, it seems like someone earned their money. Save the warranty info. In case of seal failure.

$400 a window seems pretty fair.

I am not really up on windows but I would say these are not the bottom of the barrel nor the top of the line.
Which is just fine for this job.

That was in 2012 or so. I ordered them from a local lumber yard. Silverline may have been the brand. I’m not a window guy so it took me 4x as long to install them as a pro would have taken. Still, nothing was left to chance. The house is quieter. I’ve one more, put off now for 20 years, which will involve masonry improvements. Fun fun!

Email me your contact info if you want to discuss, I can call you tomorrow. I'm the production manager for a very large exteriors company. My crews install hundreds of windows a year of many brands/styles. Happy to help!

Sounds like "Outnumbered" just might be the man to work with.

Here locally, my next door neighbor was recommended "Window World" to replace all the old school windows in his house built in 1940. Had to be a dozen windows including one large picture window in the living room. The replacement windows are modern double pane windows.

My neighbor was shocked as was I, that the total job came out at less than $2,500. Neighbor had priced windows earlier at Lowes and had he gone that route, it would have been several thousand more than what Window World did it for.

I was impressed with the professionalism and preparedness of the Window World 4 man crew that came out. They had all the old windows out and new windows installed in one day and came out the next to finish the trim. Two days total and done with an entire 3 bedroom 2 bath house.

I'm sure there are Window World horror stories out there somewhere. Window World has some 200 locally owned stores nationwide and they may not all be as good to deal with as ours is, but if I need window work or am asked for a local recommendation ... Window World. Neighbor feels the same way. He couldn't believe how remarkably quiet his house is now that the old school single pane windows are gone. And his power bill has gone down too. Window World did him right.

You’ve got mail!!!

And Hobbs window world is actually who gave me the quote.
They have come highly recommended by a good number of people I have talked to. All give the same descriptions as you.
Though they were not the cheapest.

As for me I have WW and Lowe’s to choose from pretty much.
Lowe’s is pretty much a crap shoot on the installer you get.

Happened to me. The MANUFACTURER however was still in business, and they sent me two windows via UPS. I only had to pay shipping which was expensive at 100 bucks each. It was a company in Ohio and it took some effort to find their name. Find the warranty. Mine had seals that were broken. I replaced then ten year after initial install.

Had mine replaced a few years back. 7 average size and 3 large ones. Vinyl double hung with screens and double glass. $5400 and took 2 guys 2 days to complete the job. They leave the frame intact and install a small piece of trim inside and cover the outside with aluminum which looks great. My frames were in good condition. Lifetime warranty for free replacement but they charge $25 to deliver and install. They are about an hour away so no complaints.

If you have Lowe's and one other choice, always pick the one that is not Lowe's.

I had 21 windows replaced a couple years ago. Average was $750/ window. Sounds like a good deal assuming the widow quality is decent.

Hence the reason I am asking about the initial quote so I don’t even have to bother having them come out.

Pays to shop around for windows.

Also, take a few random pictures during the install. You never know what might happen.

Had a "reputable" regional company replace 12 windows about 8 years ago. Since the house was built in the 50's they were required to test for lead in the underlying paint...... $60 per window. Tests came back positive which would require the installers to wear PPE, bag and wrap the old trim and frames, and put up a floor to ceiling barrier. Fortunately my wife had taken some pictures which showed none of that happened. We got our $720 back.

Maddening EPA Bullshit. Every house before the 70s has lead paint. I despise the lead paint laws fully and completely. I get people stopping by and calling with piss-poor attempts at selling me windows all the time. Yeah dude, tell me more about your POS vinyl window and how it will last longer than my solid oak, wavy glass, 100+ year old double hung windows. I replaced 10 windows at my previous home with Andersen A-Series double hung. I really liked them.
