I was taught that you use pressure bandage, and Gause. Keep adding until it stops bleeding, or you need a tourniquet. After that, release it every 30 to 45 minutes until transport.

If IV solution is available run it, treat for shock and support breathing if necessary, and make as comfortable as possible.
