'68 Dodge Dart I "appropriated" from my father in 1980. 225 Slant-six that would not die - a tank of gas that would last forever. Odometer stopped working after what would have been 300,000 miles so who knows.

Lasted until I graduated from college and promptly bought a new 1985 VW-Golf GTI 5-speed manual.
That one only went 265,000mi until 2000.

Took me through my senior year in high school and all through college. Some crazy times in that shit box.

‘65 Chevelle SS

My first was a 1955 Pontiac Starchief Convertible. I bought it in 1962 from a local couple, paid $250.00!! I loved that car, made a terrible trade in 1964 and still regret it.

1963 Chevy Biscayne Station Wagon to haul my bands amps and guitars around. 3 speed with a trailer hitch that later pulled a small trailer as the band grew. It was a true POS with the drivers floorboard rusted out that gave it that Fred Flintstone appeal. I think it was $300 before a plate was welded to the floor.

1964 Ford Falcon 2 door Sprint. Black on black with chrome trim.

My mom drove it when we were kids and it left us stranded so many time my dad parked it in the barn. When I got my license my dad decided it was time to resurrect it. The 260 v8 was shot. Ran so rough and the pipes and glass packs were so rusted out that it sounded like I had a rocket in it. I couldn’t outrun a lawn mower. We finally dropped a rebuilt 289 in it. I learned to drive a manual transmission in that tank. With the new engine l, I got in a lot of trouble. This was in the late 80s so the 5.0 fox body mustangs were all the rage. They all thought my ugly heap was a joke until I smoked every single one of them. My mom offered it to me when my dad died. I didn’t have the money, time or a place to put it out of the weather so I declined. Not sure where it ended up.

66 Mustang coupe 289 2V 4 speed.

1950 Studebaker Champion. Mine was two-tone, baby blue and rust. A lot of rust. $150 at a used car lot in Norfolk VA, while I was in Navy Guided Missile school at Dam Neck, 1956 or 1957.

Didn't use much gas, but consumed oil in huge quantities.

A '79 280ZX, in gold. It was a fun car. Not super fast, but fun to drive. Still, it looked sportier than it was.

1970 Plymouth Runner. Blue in color.

1978 Audi Fox. My Dad’s old car. Sure it had Bondo on the fender, no power brakes or steering, but it had a crank sunroof and a killer stereo. What a fun car.

1967 Mercury Cougar with a 289 V8. It even had the flip up headlight covers that worked.
I bought it in 1984 as a project car. Unfortunately once I started to dive into the body work their was just way to much rust.
I ended up selling the engine and the transmission to a car restorer for almost as much as I paid for the car.

1957 Olds Convert

1968 Javlin SST
Bought from a neighbor for 50 bucks in 1978.I was 14.
Over the next 4 years. With the help from my dad I rebuilt the engine, Changed it from automatic to a 4speed and put a 4.11 posi in it.
Then painted it midnight blue.
In 1986 I sold it for 3200$ used the money for the down payment on the house I still live in.
Add in the knowledge I gained and that 50$ was a good investment

1979 Ford Fairmont Futura. 2 door. I hated that car, tried every way I could to kill it but make it look like it just died on me. It could NOT. BE. KILLED.

1982 Mercedes-Benz 240D
4 cylinder, non-turbo diesel that made about 64hp when it was new.
We bought it in 2002, with a stopped odometer & over 300k on the clock.
Slowest car I've ever driven, but in hindsight, was perfect for a 16 year old.

About 9 months after I got my license, I got rear-ended while slowing for a light.
F150, towing an open trailer, light drizzle.
I had slowed to around 10-15mp & he was likely doing around 40-45mph.
Folded the trunk lid in half, but car was still drivable & the back doors still opened/closed without interference.

Was pretty much identical to this one


And, her fate after getting hit. $7k in damage to a $2k car.

1975 Buick Regal, Silver with a Black Landau Top.

Transmission died after about a month, got a used one from a wrecking yard and Dad helped me put it in.

Drove it for about 10 years.

1971 Eldorado. I bought it in 1978 for $1,700. My payment was $72.00 per month, which was a lot of money for a Junior in High School.

8.2 liters/500 cubic inches of Detroit Muscle. I believe it had a quadrajet four barrel. If you punched it hard, you could witness the gas gauge drop.

It was a land yacht and a pretty cool car for my first.

1969 Porsche 911S. I think I paid about $7000 for it in 1972. I had to work my ass off to make the payments and insurance. The babes loved it even with me being "less than handsome".
