I only accept USPS money order(s), certified bank check or good ol' US currency when face to face. There are to many scams going on.

No, this one is a USP Compact .40 with stainless slide.

That's a difficult to find HK, to bad you can't deal with a local buyer.

I swear, there are so many flakes out there. So many locals have said they were gonna buy it, then went radio silent. And trying to sell an iPhone or iPad - just nuts.

I use USPS money orders, they can be forged but you can call USPS and verify the serial number, post office purchased at and amount of money order. The number for USPS money order verification is 1 (866) 459-7822 . I have also accepted a cashiers check, and while they can’t be proved to be legitimate, I have called the issuing bank branch and had them verify the info on the check that I received. Waiting for a check to clear is impossible to gauge, the bank will say it will clear in 7-10 days but they don’t know, they are only notified when a check doesn’t clear, and it can take a long time for a check to be shown bad.

Most of the time banks will verify a cashier's check. US bank would back when I worked for them.

You called, gave them the numbers on the check and they could tell you if it was a real check or not (provided the check was drawn on them)

Ok, he's a scammer. Check this email out he sent me today:

i got confirmation that payment has been made to you, It will be delivered to your address any day from now.... But to my greatest surprise, My bankerpp mistakingly made out the check for $2500.50 ....... instead of the actual amount of the purchase and the funds as already been deduct from my account because it an official cashiers check from my bank. I instructed her to send your actual amount for the item I bought from you and write another one to my cousin..... Upon the clearance kindly deduct the agreed price + shipping and extra $35 for securing the gun for me after which i will make arrangement on how you will get the extra funds send to my cousin.. i will need your immediate response assuring me that i can trust you to handle this with care and have the remaining funds returned appropriately thanks.

Oh please, please, please, tell the buyer okay and you'll send the gun as agreed.

And after you receive the check - no matter how many times it needs to be resent. Please. Big Grin

Too bad it's probably not the person on the DL and CCW he sent me. I'd love to send the whole thing to the cops when the check turns out to be bogus.

Get everything together including e-mails, for US Postal Inspectors. It'll be worth the time and effort. This guy is not new to scamming.

I doubt the person I'm dealing with is the same person on the DL and CCW he emailed me. Now, he did email me an FFL and it's legit. So I could call that FFL and ask if he knows this guy. But I doubt any of this checks out.

The FFL will have no clue who the guy is as the guy never intended to take possession of the gun.

At least you didn't fall for it.

Same thing happened to me-twice!--with one craigslist sale, a large Ikea wardrobe I was selling for $200. Sent a cashier's check for >$2000--by US Priority Mail!
I called the RV company that the check supposedly came from, woman in accounting department said wasn't the first time, I sent copy but NOT original cashier's check to them to prosecute.
I am still wondering if the woman could be in on it and if I should call USPS fraud office.
