Congratulations.
The days of long term service to an employer being a virtue (and rewarded) seem to be over at most places.

My younger friends and relatives seem to get promotions and larger pay raises by jumping ship rather than sticking around.

This also provides you with different set of coworkers and experiences if you need that for a future change too.

That's exactly how it is supposed to work.

Good for you.

It's a totally different industry, so I'll have to learn a few things.

More money, a job you really wanted, the promotion you deserve but never got. Sounds like a good day for you my friend. Congratulations.

Did they let you go? or are they making you work out the notice?

Thank you all once again.

They are letting me work until the end, as I intended to do. It would have been nice to have the week off before the new job, but my sleep schedule would get even more screwed up if I did that.

Congrats! Remember, change is good. It’s hard to leave what you know and what you are comfortable with.
But humans need challenge. Some of the best supervisors I’ve worked for came up from the ranks. The worst ones came straight from college….

Congratulations! I wish you well in the new position. If you have friends among your former coworkers, I do recommend having lunch with them every so often. I dine with former coworkers once a month.

Last day of official orientation was today. So far, so good. I have to meet with H.R. and the chain of command yet over the next few days. I'm being thrown into the lions den tomorrow morning with supervisors meetings back to back. Did I mention I didn't meet with the others yet...

I will have my work cut out for me for sure with the department. I can't disclose too much information here, but I'm up for the challenge. I'll have to bring some ideas from my previous employer to them as this company is restructuring for the better.

That's all for now. I'll try to update y'all and answer any questions that I can.

Thank you all again for the warm wishes and congratulations.

Congratulations! I know the heartache and frustrations of trying to move up. I'm happy for you.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.
