Could someone explain to me what this soldier did in the Army. He is claiming a combat-related injury. He does not appear to be in a combat role but does have a service medal for GWOT.

42F10 = Human Resources Information System Management Specialist.

055AGPSB... 055 is, I think, 5th Army, and PSB is probably Personnel Support Detachment.

He received an Army Commendation Medal, an Army Achievement Medal, and a Presidential Unit Citation all in less than two years; he was doing something notable. The write-ups for those might tell you something.

Another source would be his Performance Evaluation - if he had any combat, it might be listed there.

I would like to apologize to anyone I have *not* offended. Please be patient. I will get to you shortly.

The individuals MOS is 42F, Human Resources/

The DD214 states he did not complete his first full term of service.

The individual in question could have volunteered outside of his normal MOS, and been chosen for a specialty duty.

He could have gotten injured on duty and given a medical discharge, but when you think combat injury, you think Purple Heart.

I just checked my DD214 for Afghanistan

I volunteered outside of USACAPOC and was chosen for a 12 man team assigned to the US Army Corp of Engineers. My main duty was to drive an MRAP with a Sparks II Mine Roller.

My DD214 states my primary specialty is 38B Civil Affairs Specialist.

Mine also states that I served in a designated imminent danger pay area. Service in AFG.

I am not sure for if they all say that or not.

The Presidential Unit citation if nifty though.

Thanks I found 5th Army but PSB had me stumped

1 year, 11 months, not much time active, but no idea here.

I will say, I know someone who only went a few weeks into Army basic training, never graduated. She was ushered out with a medical discharge, partial disability. Now she has a DAV plate on her car, gets a fair amount a month for life, and is 1st in line for any veteran’s freebies.

Getting out in less than two years seems a little fishy, but honorable discharge?

A quick Google suggests there were only four Army units that received the Presidential Unit Citation for actions during the brief period that he was in:

1st BCT, 1st Armored (March 2004-June 2004)
2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry (November 2004)
1st Infantry Division (unspecified 2004)
1st Armored Division (unspecified 2004)

All for actions in Iraq.

There were a slew of PUCs in 2003, but those all stem from the initial Iraq invasion, which was a few months before he started active duty.

Why do you need to know?

Any injuries received while serving wouldn’t even be on here, that’s on his medical records and VA records.

Someone very well could have been injured while serving and not show a Purple Heart on here.

Is he claiming service related or combat related?

Even combat related might not result in a purple heart. I have an acquaintance with 100% combat disability. He got it diving out of the second floor of a house that was about to go KaBOOM, so it was not what we typically think of as a war wound.

TBI, maybe? It appeared that many troops with traumatic brain injuries/concussions in that time span (GWOT) would not have been awarded a Purple Heart unless medical treatment by a physician was required. And many are awarded after requesting/documentation of the events.

Additional research shows that the 55th Personnel Services Battalion was included in the award to the 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division. Looks like he was assigned to that PSB.

Should state why separated and look up reenlistment code. That portion of form is not visible.

Looks like he ETSd before that was a thing...unless it is retroactive.

CAB can be retroactive to September 2001. Better answers could be given if we knew the reason.

The GWOT medal is a “I served during this timeframe” award. Everyone got it. I got one and I was in the coast guard. Everyone got it.

It’s like a National Defense Medal-everyone in the service during declared wars gets them whether they went to the theater or not. Shit I’ve got two of em for the Gulf War and GWOT.

I don’t see a GWOT Expeditionary Medal which signifies service overseas or Afghanistan or Iraq Campaign Medal or NATO Medal or Combat Action Badge. Also no Purple Heart.

One thing I really wish they’d crack down on is disability fraud amongst other things.

Maybe not 100% of the time, but I don't really see someone in an HR MOS being a combat wounded veteran. This doesn't smell right. One would think if he's truly 'combat wounded', where's the Purple Heart?
