Of the 13 deaths attributed to the storm so far, 8 are due to CO poisoning from using generators indoors. Please, please learn to use a generator properly.... so senseless of a loss. https://weather.com/news/news/...ooding-power-outages ---------------------------------- "These things you say we will have, we already have." I’m trying to figure out how I can get to friends family’s places to bring them supplies and gas currently because I have easy access on the east side of the state for whatever they need. That’s what my weekend challenge is Girlfriends god father is one of the lead biologists for refuge outside Cameron. He stayed. I would start with the Cajun Navy, they may be able to advise you on points of access and ways to help. There is a phone number on their website. https://www.cajunnavyrelief.com/ ______________________________ “I'd like to know why well-educated idiots keep apologizing for lazy and complaining people who think the world owes them a living.” ― John Wayne

The smaller town of Iowa, La is 20 min. East of Lake Charles , They got hit pretty good as well, there are pics and vids on the Www. The demographics between the two towns are kind of astounding. The whole "bouncing back " to normal may take a lot longer than in areas that have greater annual incomes. This message has been edited. Thanks for posting. I am reminded of the frequent visits Bush made after Katrina which was exactly 15 years ago today. These visits are very important from a morale viewpoint. Glad he took the time.

Retired from the " power company " 3 years ago . If I was still working I probably would be there now . We went to New Orleans and Chalmette after Katrina . Stayed home ( Baton Rouge ) after Gustav since it tore things up pretty bad here . a lot of people here are loading trailers with supplies and heading that way . God bless them . Those folks really need it .

I saw a lot of power company vehicles on I-12 in Denham Springs and BR headed west. Denham Springs Bass Pro and Sam's parking lots were full of power comp trucks staging before heading out. Today they were all gone. _______________________________________________________ And no, junior not being able to hold still for 5 seconds is not a disability.

My buddy is a radio tech for a dept. in Louisiana and he has a work repeater in Sulphur, LA. He went to check his repeater this morning and this is what he found. This was a 480' tower. _______________________________________________________ And no, junior not being able to hold still for 5 seconds is not a disability.

Yes, towers are down all over the city. Bent over like they were made of chicken wire. At the height of the storm, the city experienced sustained winds reaching 156 mph. I spoke to my friend in LC this afternoon. He came home yesterday and had to park three-quarters of a mile down his street because the entire street is blocked by downed trees. Tree after tree for as far as you can see. It's a good/bad mix. He says his is the only house in his neighborhood without a hole in his roof and water in the house. But a tree flattened his garage. It missed the house primary but the garage is a total loss. Luckily, no cars were in the garage at the time. He has huge trees down all over his yard and he spent yesterday and much of today with a chainsaw, clearing as best he could. Of course, there's no one available to haul away what he's cut up. He has a good generator, so he can run his refrigerator, and he and his wife can run a window AC he managed to buy, so that they can at least sleep in relative comfort. His neighbor across the street couldn't run his generator because he kept having alarms go off in his house and discovered he had a propane leak. My friend says the stench all across the city is horrible because everyone is putting out trash to the curb, which includes rotted food, so the city has instructed everyone to pour bleach on their trash after they set it to the curb. The TV station in town, KPLC, an NBC affiliate is off the air because their broadcast tower got bent into chicken wire. I've actually climbed that tower with one of the engineers back in the old days, when I was young and didn't know any better. Hard to imagine that steel getting bent over like that. KPLC weather radar, which is right on the lake, suffered a similar fate. I asked him if there was anything I could send him and he said I'd have to deliver it in person- no USPS, UPS, FedEx, nothing. He says it's going to be at least 4 weeks before he gets power back, and as far as the recovery of the city in general goes, he says they're in for the long haul- a year or more. In a weird quirk, his mother-in-law's house received minimal damage and has power, one of the few houses he knows of in town, so he and the wife will hang out over there a good bit, taking showers, washing clothes. He has running water at his house but it's just cold water. All in all, it could have been much worse. Some people in town and the surrounding area lost everything. He's a damn good guy and has a can-do attitude that inspires those who know him, including me. Here's his home as of yesterday. He had a new roof put on the house just three weeks ago. Here he is with his wife. I took this pic of him in 1998 on the beach in Ocho Rios, Jamaica where I got married. He was my best man for my wedding, and still is.

Yep. You put the stuff by the curb and in November they pick it up. HUGE trucks and cranes come through the neighborhoods. You wet down your debris pile every other day and hope that you are lucky and get a FEMA trailer to live in for a year. It is hard as hell. We had volunteers throughout the US coming to the area to help for over four years. FREE services. Many church groups. They would ask if you needed help and would provide it. We have sent many trucks to the area with supplies as well as others who have expertise in recovery. Louisiana helped us and we are returning the favor.

Para- sorry to hear about your friend. The aftermath of a hurricane is horrible and takes weeks and weeks just to get to some sense of normal. Streets cleared, some gas stations open with gas, stores with some groceries. But the devastation is all around you with piles of what were healthy trees and people's houses are now rubble on the side of the road. Insurance companies take forever to pay and it takes forever to get contractors to get started because there's so much work. It's a very tough thing to go through and you never forget it. Hopefully help will arrive and start getting some things back to normal.

I heard on the news that the scammer contractors wasted no time in getting there to start screwing people over .

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Disgusting. The scammers will offer to clean the yard of trees and debris for an outrageous cash price. They will tell the homewoner that their insurance company will reimburse them which is a lie. A lot of that goes on.

90 degrees and a 67% dew point predicted for today. That might be just Be bearable if you were out sawing up tree debris in the shade with a 15 m.p.h. breeze. But out in the sun and dead calm would be more than a challange for me. Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Neck Ties, Hats and ammo brass, Never ,ever touch'em w/o asking first

When I was stationed at Fort Polk, I would spend my weekends in LC. Definitely went there on Friday nights after a long week at work or in the field for food. It's a pretty nice small town and my heart breaks for the people there. _____________
