Last week,
Was a little bit concerned that I shot 2nd best
in the class of 7 people.
(30 rounds total from three distances)

I had not been shooting in 5 years.

Two people's firearms jammed up pretty good.

Another had the front site flip of of her 25 y.o. 1911.

I was told to disperse my shots because if they could not see a hole for each shot my score would suffer. Roll Eyes

Losing the front site would complicate the situation. Were the people with the jammed-up weapons able to qualify?

Last time I was in a re-cert class everybody had to shoot a group at a "dot" a little smaller then a 3 inch shoot and see. So maybe 1.5-2 inch aiming point as sort of a final test/see how you've grown in the class blah blah. When I got to my target I asked where my dot was. He snickered and said your not looking close enough. My dot WAS A GOD DAMN DOT!!! They took a Sharpy and just touched the tip to the target paper. That was my target. I shanked ONE a little left of it and I hear what happened???? Damn dude they can't all be gold!!! Big Grin

The lady that lost the front site, kept shooting , she's
the one that beat me Smile

I am pretty sure they got certified..

It's not so much a competition as it is a money grab by the state.

The three that shot the worst were spraying and praying.
For some reason they were in some kind
of a hurry.

I used my GP100, all single action shots.

I just signed up for my renewal class in August.

The 8 hour renewal class is $195, including range fees. I've got to hit 27 out of 30 shots from 7 yards on the large silhouette. Super easy.

Then another $77 for my county sheriff to perform a token background check.

So for $272 (plus gas, lunch and boolits), I get to have a CCW permit. If I let it lapse (after 2 years), I'd have to apply as a new applicant which would require a two day (16 hours) class, LiveScan, range qualifications, etc. Easily over $500.

I'm hoping a Republican governor gets elected in whacky CA and will extend CCW permits to 5 year permits.

In MD, if you let your "wear and carry" permit lapse by even one day, you have to start the process over from the very beginning. This includes getting fingerprinted by an approved vendor (as if your fingerprints had changed from the previous time). Needless to say, they make the whole process as inconvenient and expensive as they can. At least they offer a non-resident permit, not that they honor any other State's documents.

Why aren't carry permits treated with the same respect as are marriage and driver's licenses? Imagine the outrage if everyone had to get a separate license from every State they drive in!

Here in KY you take the class and shoot ONCE, 11 out of 20 a 7 yards on a man sized target. LEOSA, however, requires annual certification, but at the same standard. The only drawback is our usual range master only shoot us in February. We usually maintain the LEOSA card even though it's a constitutional carry state so we're good when we travel.
