I was always warm blooded. However, when I was 59 I had surgery for prostate cancer. I have been cold ever since.

I walk my dog twice daily and noticed last week my fingers were cold and the temp was only in the 30's and I was wearing gloves. I think circulation had a lot to do with it.

One key is making sure whatever you buy is not too tight. You want all the circulation in your fingers to stay there. Snowboarding gloves (mittens) are a great option - designed for wind and wet.

My hands have always gotten cold first....I can wear a wool jumper and a good hat well into the teens especially if I am moving but always wear warmer gloves.

Those are similar to the Army issue cold weather mittens, I still have a pair from Drum. They work very well, normal I will wear thin gloves under them and use the dummy cord to hold them while I work or shoot.

For those that deviated to mittens, any added recommendations for warm waterproof mittens other than the furry beaver ones?

You might look at some three fingered gloves.

Just a quick Google search shows that Duluth Trading has something similar. A bit spendy, but I suspect they are worth it.

I believe that many native Alaskan people make their mittens from caribou hides as the hairs are hollow and extremely warm but I was not able to quickly find any online.

Wearing a beanies/insulated hat helps.

Mittens also if you're prone to cold extremities or, just sensitive. Trigger-finger gloves are nice if you need a combination of warmth and dexterity. Check out some ice climbing gloves for the best combination of waterproof, dexterity and warmth. Most are either fully featured or, very minimalist for the speed climbing types.

I got the biggest ones that they offer, and my giant meat hooks just barley fit in them.

Don't know if you're carrying during the walks but you may want to make sure you can fit your trigger finger into the trigger guard no matter which gloves you choose.

Im going to ask my BIL. He is a musher in AK. Did you have a price range?

I get this too. If I keep my core warm it helps. Swany mittens are the way to go. They have liners with them so you can unzip and use your fingers if needed.
