I am biased because I have been a leader for 43 years. But 4-H is a great organization. We have a great shooting sports program but we like the kids to be 10 at least. But there are a lot of beginner programs, they can do gun safety once they are 8 and 3rd grade.

the HudgeRoyal rangers all the way. I was a commander for 18 years and both my boys were raised in it. It was the best.
Oh, and I was a Boy Scout growing up but Rangers was a much better experience.

ubelongoutsideThanks for all of the suggestions. I hadn't heard of some of these groups, though many are for older kids.
I'll look a little more into the scout troop at his school and definitely going to check out the Trail Life group.
As he gets older he can have more input into which group he wants to join, but for now that's my job.

mark123I was also a Royal Ranger. It was a very positive experience. We got to go to the National Camporama in 1982.
