Incomprehensible tragedy here. 21 Year old woman intends to go bungee jumping. She is picked up by three men who carry her overhead and heave her off the bridge but no one had attached her bungee rope and she falls 130ft to her death. Hard to imagine how no one realized that she had no rope attached.

They sure that was an “accident”?

I’m no bungee jumper but my guess is on the pre-jump checklist the first and last items are “Attach bungee cord” and “Are you sure you attached the bungee cord?”

What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

needs to be said?

That’s a bit hard to believe unless alcohol was involved. Like 911 Boss said, the checklist isn’t very long.

Things happen.
I just watched a video about a highly-experienced skydiver who jumped without his parachute. He evidently just forgot it with a heavy load of camera equipment (before GoPro days). Even more bizarre was that for an earlier second jump of the day he had to be reminded by another jumper that he didn’t have his parachute then.

How many climbing/rappelling accidents have happened because someone didn’t clip into an anchor properly? I saw another video about a highly-experienced climber who was climbing solo on Half Dome(?) and his gear bag got stuck below him. He rappelled down to free it, but ran out of rope because he wasn’t paying attention to how much he had left.

As the saying goes, familiarity breeds contempt—or at least a tendency to not think about things as much as they should. Those men probably didn’t think about the cord attachment, just an unthinking assumption that it had already been attached.

As for motive? Yeah, sure, why not kill someone you don’t like by claiming a grossly-incompetent oversight in view of a bunch of witnesses? Happens all the time and makes perfect sense to me. Roll Eyes

More importantly than that silly rope or that cord thingy, how many of her followers gave extra clicks and views on TikTok?

Damn. Just damn. Six people pointing the finger at each other saying it was your job to hook the bungee cord up.

While you won’t catch me doing shit like this I would damn sure be looking to see if I was attached to the cord.

Four people were directly involved, what looks like a supervisor, two guys throwing, and the women herself. In one of the following videos, the three idiots don't really react once they toss her over the edge.

Or, maybe she wanted to commit suicide, and they were all in on it making it look like a mistake. I watched different available videos yesterday, and none acted like they were shocked or anything.

I don't see any lines attached to those throwing her either.

You always check you own equipment. Then you have a second person double check your equipment.

In at least one of the videos you can see a cord attached to the trailing thrower.

I don’t know. Play stupid games… well you know the rest. Why do folks do this kind of stuff? Shame they couldn’t have harvested her organs prior to the jump/fall so some deserving person could live a good life.

“I want to commit suicide, but don’t want to do it by just jumping off this ledge or any of the countless other ways I could do. Will you help make it look like an accident by throwing me off without the cord attached even though it will probably be the end of your livelihood and maybe even get you sent to jail?”

Or:

“I’m tired of this bitch, and want her dead. Will you make it look like it was an accident by throwing her off without the cord attached even though it will probably be the end of your livelihood and maybe even get you sent to jail? A hundred bucks American if you’ll do it.”

Either way: “Sure, why not?”

My wife told me about this. Heartless as it may be I can’t be bothered. This is why I don’t bungee, skydive, go on helicopter rides, or downhill ski! I’m only taking flights when I HAVE to. So many accidents make the risk to reward ratio easy to read.

Most of this, yes.
But, I do really miss flying, small planes. Got too expensive for a broke college student & never went back to it.

It's not that bad. I've done it several times. Of course I made sure the bungee was attached before jumping. Smile
