The Hubble Telescope gets some amazing photos of space... here's one of them of the Christmas Star. Correction, not Hubble, but stock photo illustration.

Now that's the Christmas star I want to see.

Sorry to be "that guy," but that's a stock photo illustration, not a photo from the Hubble.

Sorry, my bad. My wife forwarded the photo to me from her Facebook (of which I don't belong) and I didn't verify. Thanks for the heads-up. It is pretty cool though.

My next door neighbors have a large nativity scene in their front yard every year. One year I recognized the star they have hanging above as a Moravian Star (I learned about this 26 point star when I spent some time in Winston-Salem NC, where there is a large Moravian community). I asked them if they knew it was a Moravian Star, and they replied that the Bible describes the Star of Bethlehem as just that (I'm not very religious or bible-read, so I cannot comment on that).

My better half showed me the same image last evening from FB and my first words were " the Hubble must have been on wide angle because it could have done a better job than that."

I took my telescope to the mountain overlook near me and it was amazing.
Saturn's rings were perfectly rotated so you could see them!
Jupiter's Galilean moons were all bright and visible!

I had a crowd show up and I got to give a sky tour!

And that's another reason I dumped Fakebook. Far, far too much of that fake stuff going around. Even I got caught by it a couple times, and I tend to skepticism.

It is cool-looking, though.
