So we're trying to come up with some ideas on how we can keep our workplace contact-less. But many times we have tasks that require the customer have a source inspector present to witness certain steps. One suggestion I made was to see if we can use a camera where the inspector can witness from a distance. Issue is finding the right camera. Needs to be something small and wearable. I have seen some of those 'eyeglass' style cameras, but in many of the operations the tech needs to wear safety glasses. So that style won't work. Need recommendations on something that is fairly small that can be worn without being obtrusive. And it would need to live stream so we can watch remotely, like using a laptop. And wireless might be preferred, but battery life then becomes an issue. Some of these inspection steps can take 4 hours or more. Use of an external battery pack might be okay. Resolution isn't a huge issue, but probably need to be at least 720p. Prefer 1080 so long as frame rate won't stay in the single digits. So anyone have any suggestions on a camera that could work here?

It's what the big boss wants to do in response to the Kung Flu. Personally, I don't think it's needed. But it's his call, his money.

At work, we piloted a mentoring software called Onsight where a junior engineer and a subject matter expert (e.g. me) would have the same app on their smart phones (e.g. iPhone). Think of it being like FaceTime but it adds tools for the mentor to provide realtime feedback. For example, realtime mark-up capability so the mentor can point the junior engineer to something important, wrong, etc. There was some wearable devices called RealWear that could be added, but I never got into it. Frankly, never got into Onsight either as it didn't reduce the volume of texts, IMs, e-mails, and phone calls from junior engineers.

It sounds like Onsight would work for your application.

They make safety glasses with a camera.

You can tell him for me that he has his head so far up his ass, he'll never again see the sun.

This kind of crap is flat-out wrong and moves us further away from a functioning, civilized society and if he needs this explained to him, he's as big a stupid asshole as he sounds to be.

In looking at a similar use case where a technician is on-site and needs to consult with an engineer or team, the Realwear products look interesting. They can work with Microsoft Teams and provide the tech with access to information and assistance from a team while they are in a remote location.

The product can also be attached to a hardhat or other Personal Protective Gear. It has the option to be used hands-free with voice control and could be an interesting solution for your use case.

Microsoft Teams provides the ability to record calls and provide a transcript/closed captioning which could satisfy your need for proof of inspection with the recording archived to meet retention requirements.

The unit comes in two basic models (regular and hazardous environment rated) with accessories like spare battery packs, audio options, mounting options and such.

The bonus with a system like this is the the younger and more agile tech can be the one climbing the tower while you enjoy your coffee and coach them to success and ensure the work gets done.

Good luck in finding a solid platform for your needs.

That Realware looks impressive. But kind of cumbersome.

And for a lot of reasons, the glasses won't work. They might be the least obtrusive. But some tasks require them, some don't. Not to mention we have some techs that would need a prescription version.

I just went through this yesterday commissioning some new equipment in a data center. The company we were working for has a no interstate travel rule now, so the commissioning agent joined us via a zoom meeting. A surface pro was setup on a mobile cart for him to witness all the tests.

It probably added about 2-3 hours to the day as well as tied up one guy to basically keep the surface pro pointed at what ever was being checked out.
