I would humbly recommend you try the "Roca" Patron Silver. It is a much nicer taste in my opinion.

A big difference in the "Roca".

I knew when I posted this I would not be disappointed. LOL

The "Roca" Patron is on my list. It's available in reposado, anejo, etc. isn't it? I basically read a bunch of fairly recent articles on "best tequilas" and wrote down some middle-of-the-road from the blanco/reposado/anejo categories. Figure I'll first see what is available locally. I can't imagine WV is going to have a big selection. LOL

I like silver tequila for margaritas but prefer one that is more aged for straight drinking (don't like the term "sipping").
More flavor.

Don Julio
Codrigo

I recently discovered Casamigos. I'd avoided that one because of it's George Clooney association and figuring that no way could Clooney know good tequila. I was wrong. It's excellent. I prefer the Reposado as a balance of agave flavor and the vanilla/caramel/oak notes from the barrel. Casamigo might be a bit sweet for mixing into a margarita (1 part triple sec, 1 part lime juice, 2 parts tequila is my recipe), but its quite nice neat.

I enjoy sipping reposado tequilas. Anejos are too expensive, and taste more like the barrels they were aged in than agave.

A few of my favorite reposados-

Cabo Wabo
Don Julio
Herradura
Casamigos

These are widely available. There are a zillion tequilas out there, I’m sure there are other good ones. If you ever want to spend about $100, try a bottle of Clase Azul reposado. It’s heavenly. And hard to find.

I was over at one of my best friends' a couple months ago and he was telling me about how some of his on-line friends had talked him into trying tequila. He hated it. Brought out the fifth. Hardly touched. I allowed as how I'd been meaning to find a good tequila to try. "You want it? Take it!" So I did.

I find it real tasty.

Just looked it up on Michigan's Liquor Control Commission price list: $20. Damn, I'm a cheap drunk

Iv been wanting to try Don Julio 1942 for years; I just have a hard time with ~$130 a bottle or ~$20 a shot.

Is it really that different?

It’s real good. I buy it when it’s on sale at Costco for around $100. It’s definitely not something I’d use in mixed drinks but it’s really smooth and tasty as a sipper.

I was in Santa Fe, New Mexico for a wedding and the Bachelor Party started at a restaurant that that had their own Margarita recipe book for sale. I bought the book because it featured write-ups of the great Tequila makers across Mexico.

I think you will enjoy reading about the different brands and each's version of Tequila.

This book is not an in-depth, know-all book about Tequila, it's a great start with drink recipes, food recipes, and overview of tequila makers.

I have no doubt in-depth tequila books exist but if you want one because you enjoy tequila and not because you want to start your distillery I think this book works great!

Amazon has used from $1.50 to new at $17

Synopsis

On the rocks or frozen, with lemon or lime, with salt or without, nothing conjures up the festive spirit of Mexico and the Southwest quite like amargarita-especially one made with the best tequila.

Al Lucero, owner of Maria's Restaurant in Santa Fe, has served up his nationally acclaimed, authentic margaritas for nearly 20 years.

In this revised edition of The Great Margarita Book, Al offers more than 85 of his special formulas along with profiles of more than 75 premium tequilas, including discussions of the all-important blue agave and methods of tequila production, classification, and labeling.

Also featuring recipes for spicy dishes from Maria's and other great tequila drinks, The Great Margarita Book is the quintessential guide to America's most festive cocktail.

¡Salud!

Tequila isn't my main drink. Prefer Rye whiskey instead. But Qui makes a pretty decent one. I have a bit of this from time to time.

I can hardly smell tequila anymore because of what Jose did to me and that was like 30 years ago. Eek
