lkdr1989If you don't have a dashcam, you need to get one.
Your word against the offending driver isn't going to help.

LoswsmithThere are none so blind as those who chose not to see, and those merging at high speed with a trailer onto freeways.

patwGlad to see your ok. Idiots like this need to be run off the road themselves. I had something similar happen to me the other day and thought for sure the idiot was gonna hit me and she wasn't even paying attention when I laid on my horn. She kept on going like it was no big deal.

SchmelbyI drove trucks for forty years. Every safety, driver trainer we had said "Never ever give up your lane!"

Yep, I was in the safety department, trained and took new drivers out on their finals before we cut them loose. "It's their job to merge not yours to move over"

benny6My truck was a little smaller than yours. And I had my son with me. No telling what would have happened if I let him hit me.

No, you did the right thing, we were referring to the actual merge point or the right lane. Also depending on conditions you can possibly roll your vehicle.

If you can see a possible problem arising and have the time to check mirrors and move over a lane, that's good, but most times these happen in a half a second. Swerve over a lane and hit someone else, it's your fault and the jackass who caused it drives on down the road laughing his ass off.
Mr. Fischtown... I'm retired four years and I'll bet I can still recite the five steps of the Smith system by heart!
Year after year drumming it into your head, it WORKS!
Last thirty five years, no accidents, no citations.
You must have a lot of patience.

fischtown7^^Yep, Smith system is gold in my book. 2.5 million no accidents no moving citations. You get to be almost psychic about predicting what other vehicles will do.

trapper189No doubt the car merging in front of trailer guy and merging along with him was going 50mph.
This is a technique that is actually taught in driving schools in Florida: go 50mph on the on ramp and hammer the gas when you get to the dashed lines of the merge point. Two of my kids so far were taught this in drivers ed and by Alt’s Driving School.
That’s no excuse of course trailer guy beating feet for the left lane.

Had already checked the shoulder was clear AND moved there to prevent an accident. Can't believe 2 open lanes wasn't good enough for the impatient turd.
+1

Agreed. When I got my new truck last April the first thing I did was install a front and rear dashcam system.

John SteedI had a similar experience going south on 131 in Grand Rapids, MI.
A guy cut across four lanes to get to the exit. I was in the right lane and didn't realize till the last second that he was towing a trailer. Swerving and braking saved me and my truck. He exited like nothing happened. I assume he was drunk.
... stirred anti-clockwise. March 18, 2026, 03:34 PM
PASigI see you do the standard defensive yield-move-over-for-merging traffic because like around here, these ASSHOLES do not yield and will just barrel down an on-ramp right into the traffic on the roadway.
