The claim of enhanced law enforcement through surveillance is a fabrication. I will gladly give up the illusion of safety for a bit more liberty. I have zero smart devices in my house and will never have them. There are things I can control and things I can’t but I find the concept of a surveillance state to be abhorrent to the concept of America.

I try to limit buying any type of smart devices but it's getting harder and harder to find essential items that are not smart devices. I remember coming home one afternoon after work and our local power company switched out our power meters for new smart meters. These smart meters can talk directly to many new appliances and devices plugged into wall outlets. The data these smart meters alone collect is frightening. Meta Axes 8,000 Workers As Zuckerberg Admits AI Is Watching, Replacing Labor Welcome to another day of corporate America hemorrhaging engineers and other white-collar workers with insurmountable student debt as AI adoption accelerates. This era will likely be remembered in history as the great "white-collar purge," and the response will be continued hatred of data centers. Bloomberg reports that the new round of layoffs affects roughly 8,000 roles globally, with engineering and product teams expected to be at the center of the cuts as CEO Mark Zuckerberg reduces labor in favor of GPUs. This latest round of cuts is expected to hit Meta's engineering and product teams in particular, and additional layoffs could come later in the year, said people familiar with the company's plans, who asked not to be named as the information is not public. -BBG https://www.zerohedge.com/tech...hing-replacing-labor AI Purge Accelerates: Intuit Reportedly Slashing 17% Of Workforce Intuit, the company that owns TurboTax, QuickBooks, Credit Karma, and Mailchimp, is reportedly preparing to lay off a staggering 17% of its workforce according to Reuters, which cites an internal memo. INTUIT TO LAY OFF 17% OF WORKFORCE: MEMO Details are scant at the moment regarding the reason for the layoffs, but CEO Sasan Goodarzi sent an email to staff earlier in the day, saying that reducing complexity and simplifying the structure would help it deliver better products, to streamline operations and sharpen focus on its key bets including its AI efforts. The company has signed multi-year deals with AI startups Anthropic and OpenAI to integrate their AI models into its software and add Intuit's personalized tax, finance, accounting and marketing capabilities into Claude and ChatGPT. https://www.zerohedge.com/mark...lashing-17-workforce "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Look at the bright side. We should start seeing more qualified workers at Home Depot and the McDonald's drive-thru. Diligentia, Vis, Celeritas "People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." -- George Orwell
