sjtillHollywood is losing its mind over an AI generated actress
It's not the actors I'm worried about, it's screenwriters. But what will happen is that film-making will devolve to independent film-makers working at home, writing completely new material, "filming" it with AI actors.
BTW a problem with today's AI is that women are artificially "perfect" in face and form; foreign films (I'm thinking French especially) use women who are not perfect, but extremely attractive in their femininity.

FlashlightboyI don't understand all of the Hollywood hoopla over AI actors.
They aren't there to replace humans but are just another artistic medium to tell or portray a story. I don't recall Hollywood up in arms over animated movies where the entire thing is CG, like Frozen, Toy Story, Aladdin and so on.

irreverentI guess maybe I’m leaping ahead in thinking that this is only gonna make real actors more desirable with all their flaws and imperfections..
Once we’ve had enough of the AI version..
I think there is a thread about it in the lair regarding how many impromptu things made it into the films themselves? Things that made the movie even better and that had to do with the individual actor portraying the character.

wbwThey're scared they might have to get real jobs.

Rey HRHThey already made a movie about this. S1mOne starring Al Pacino in 2002.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

nhtagmemberHollywood started all this crap
they created it
let them suck on the fruits of their labor
want better movies, get us better actors and scripts
but Hollywood is mentally bankrupt of new ideas and needs to poach old ones
I have zero sympathy for any of them

Once AI improves a little more you won't be able to tell the difference in a movie.
Agree. And one wonders when it will enter gov. For example, when can ai replace Schumer? Even a 2gb LLM is enough.

Agreed! Hey SAG-AFTRA members, why don't you just go on strike and thereby fuck yourselves?
Apparently many in Hollywood think their fantasy world is real. Someone has come along and created a bigger fantasy, that's all.

uvahawkI view this as a very positive development. No more self-centered. -entitled NEPOs. Anything that diminishes the political and cultural influence of Hollywood is a plus!

ridgeratJust think how quickly she can be ready for more takes. And she won't require a trailer, a makeup artist, a costumer, errand runners, special diet requests, etc.

wishfull thinkerBut think of the downside: No more news video of actors beating the shit out of their girlfriend, no more unending news about he crapped in the bed, no more tears over somebody we never heard of who is butt-hurt (albeit, a very attractive butt) because she didn't get her contract extended over a temper tantrum in Cancun over too much ice in a margarita.
Oh woe, oh woe, oh woe is us

That's exactly what the hoopla is about, and as AI improves and becomes more affordable, then that's what is likely to happen in the near future. I'd say within ten years.

I suspect because those affected by the advancement of CGI were people who worked behind the scenes and "behind the curtain". You could be the best guy at ILM in practical SFX. No one knows your name when your work gets replaced by CGI. Most of those hand-drawn animators got replaced by CGI.
I read all these negative comments about self-entitled actors. They have legitimate reason to be scared, as AI will change the face of film. But it's not just the actors. You know the end credits that scroll after a movie or show? At least 95% of those people are also in danger of being replaced. It takes an army to make a movie or show: costuming, set designers, carpenters, electricians, make-up artists, production assistants, catering, etc.
Most musicians these days make most of their money from touring & merchandise sales. Makes me wonder if there will be a shift back towards plays & stage productions. The one advantage humans have over AI is that you can experience them in-person.

The stormtrooper and Darth Vader vlog channels on YouTube are this, and pretty hilarious.

mark60They’re already make believe people in make believe stories with make believe monsters and such, so why not go all the way with the make believe people. No doubt, the AI actors will be liberal and hate us too.

konata88Haha, that's funny. Yes, fake people who create fake images complaining about more realistic computer generated fake images. I welcome the day when actors are paid 100K rather than 100M for a job.
