I'm looking to redo my current kitchen and currently we are looking at doing granite tops and redoing our sink cabinets to move them to a better configuration. Granite is a frontrunner as we had it and liked it in our last place but is there any reason to consider a different material? We didnt seem to have any issues with keeping it from getting stained etc.

We put granite in our last house and after 7 years when we sold the house, it looked good as new. The first thing we did in the new house was update the kitchen and add new granite countertop. We love it and have had no issues, we are going to redo the bathroom vanity and will probably do Quartz since my wife wants sparkly bright white and we could not find granite in the finish she wants.

We have Granite, getting ready to change the Kitchen Island from the 90's boomerang to a nice 5x9 rectangle. Probably do granite but a lighter color to the other tops. Some contrast will be nice...

I like my granite. I'd stick with it.

Both my children have granite in their homes and love it. We have Formica in our 20 year old home but we're having granite installed as soon as the company can do it. Busy, Busy.

About $80 a square foot installed with 5 sinks. We'll supply the faucets.

Granite all the way. It's a sustainable resource-every several million years.

Since you've had granite and liked it there is no reason to not get that again. Know many people that have it and are quite happy with it. That said, quartz is more durable and not as porous so it never needs sealing unless you want to make it more shinny and none-porous makes for a less accumulated containments. A bit more expensive though.

We did Corian 21 years ago, and it has held up well, but getting old! Wife wants an update that kills me!!! New cabinets, new counters, new floor.

Problem is, everything looks damn new, and we're thinking of getting out of NY State. I think we should let the buyers do what they want, she thinks we should try to update everything to get better $$. Hate this Sh!t!!!

I feel your pain . We just did what you described. Fortunately we don't live in the N.Y. sewer.

Corian is today’s Formica, sadly.

We just remodeled the kitchen in our new (old) home and researched the hell out of granite vs quartz.

Went with quartz. Only about 15% more than granite, which was not significant in the grand scheme of things.

I am renovating my kitchen and considered granite but ended up going with Quartz instead - simply from a long term maintenance and sealing standpoint

went with Cambria (an American manufacturer) and Armitage as the color pattern

If you like dark granite, consider "Blue Pearl". Contrary to the name, most of it is not blue but ranges from medium gray to dark gray, with lots of sparklies. It blends well with white, black, and stainless.

It is a very hard, durable stone.

I'm making the same decision now. Probably going with granite because the quartz and recycled glass stuff is more costly. Buddy I'm doing it through says the sealants they make nowadays you can spill wine, use cleaners, do whatever on it and it blocks the stains. I may spring for the more spendy stuff, but I hate my house and just want to be out of it.

Quartz. Lower maintenance than granite. I like mine.

Granite is excellent for sure. My wife has a weird aversion to it since it all looks like mold to her. We went with Quartz and it's been excellent as well.

As long the "or" isn't ceramic tile or any sort of tile then you're good to go.

I've had granite, formica, Corian, ceramic tile, etc. The only one I wouldn't have again is ceramic tile. It looks nice when it's clean, but keeping it clean is a bitch. Food spills clean up easily from the tile, but not the grout. I filled many swear jars using a toothbrush on grout plus tried every tip friends and cleaning sites gave (e.g. Clorox pens), but it all sucked sweaty dog balls.

tatortodd, was it epoxy grout or sanded? The newer stuff is amazing, expensive as hell, but cleans super easy.

My employer moves me every few years, and I sold that house in 2005 so I'm guessing it was sanded grout due to age and being a pain in the ass to clean.

Another vote for granite; it’s durable, easy to care for, and comes in a bewildering number of colors. We had our kitchen done a while back in green marinace. It is beautiful and looks like river cobbles set in stone. Very tough stuff.

Wife and I did brushed black granite. Bought a slab and had a table fabricated from the remnant.

Nice thing about being brushed; no finger prints.

Everything looks awesome and would highly recommend.

BTW, that table cost nearly as much to have fabricated than the countertops did because of all four edges being finished. Also, don't go with bull nose edges unless you're mentally prepared to wipe down the bottom of the edge whenever you wipe them down.
