I Should Soon FINALLY Have AT&T Fiber Internet **INSTALL COMPLETED** Login/Join

I have had AT&T Internet for the 21 years I have lived in this house. Long ago they upgraded to fiber, but only to a junction box far up the street and then the rest was copper to my house. I did get a speed increase back then, but nothing close to what others could get because I was at the far end of the copper limits.

Just recently they now installed all fiber in the neighborhood. I had the joy of my yard being ripped up and left with bare dirt trenches that will take a long time for the grass to grow back, but I was hoping it would be worth faster Internet.

I am currently on a plan of 50MB/sec with unlimited usage for $45 a month. Long story on how I got that plan, but I am not even able to get the 50MB download speed.

So now I get a postcard saying I can upgrade to fiber for free and pay the same amount I am and get a $50 gift card. I tried to do it online according to the instructions and it wanted to charge me $180 a month.

I then called the number and they will do the install this Saturday at noon. I will be upgraded from 50MB to 500MB AND if I don’t take the gift card then my monthly rate will be $30 per month and still unlimited usage.

I am a HUGE believer in “if it is too good to be true then it is” but we will see with this. The last time I made a change with AT&T and DirecTv they screwed everything up, which after a lot of dealing with them is how I got the plan I now have. I explained up front this better not change anything and was assured it will not. I hope this is all true and we will see. I have been happy with my internet speed but it will be nice to have much faster speeds if all this works out right. Fingers crossed!!

ATT did the fiber run to our neighborhood over a year ago, and then... didn't turn it on....

We were the last held out area in a larger development.

Then they turned on half the homes, and now finally the rest of the neighborhood.

Had the same thing, brown spots and dug up wholes all over the place, crew drove trucks with Central American plates, nice new Fords but registered in Panama or some such place, foreign crews with one US leader.

Zero usa employees doing the work..

Send them my way.
We're on Spectrum, paying about $50/month for 400mb
I'm lucky to average 120down.

Had a tech out for 3 hours, replaced the modem, multiple attempts & only got 400 once.
Then he gave up, left with a "I have other stops to make" and was gone. Confused

Luckily, for the most part, everything works well on the 100-130 I'm getting. But we only get 22up.
Asked about their gigabit service, 1k down/ 35 up Confused

Need to find the time to have a te3ch come back out & hopefully get one more competent on networking.

I also have AT&T internet.

It is shitty, but nothing else is available.

They may run fiber to my street, just not in my lifetime.

During chit chat on the call while the guy did the upgrade, I explained how I got to experience the upgrade by my yard being down up and equipment driven over it. He said everything is supposed to be put back to normal and I told him I have dirt trenches running through my yard where the grass will have to grow back over time. THAT is when he offered me the $15 a month savings that will not expire.

We will see how this goes.

Yeah I only have two options. Suddenlink, known as Sudden Stink for how bad they suck, or AT&T. Overall I have actually been happy with AT&T other than not being able to get speeds others can.

That’s AT&T corporate policy. Screw it up and hope the customer doesn’t find out.

I have Suddenlink cable internet. I am the last house on the "Node". When the kids go back to school and their parents are at work I consistently get my contracted speed of 150 mbps. Schools out, parents home, I get 100 mbps. Frequent outages.

Our Electric Co-op is amazing. We have had maybe 5 outages in the 12 years we have been here, longest at 2 hours. Guess who is installing Fiber optic? Smile

When ATT does their fiber runs it’s all contracted out. I’ve had the same Gigabit fiber for a few years now and they tore up the entire neighborhood for a good 6 months. Then when it came to the demarc extension from the junction box, the grass etc had to grow back. I was disappointed they didn’t use conduit so anything that happens over time, it’ll be on me to replace it and it’s only buried 6 inches deep with no conduit. Is what it is. Given they charge under $100 a month for the service it’s all you are going to get as far as install. Bite the bullet, get it done, and you’ll be done with it.

You’ll also find complaints about Verizon, Frontier, Consolidated, and every MSO out there, Comcast, Spectrum, Cox, Suddenlink, the list goes on and on. If there is one constant people bitch about their ISP no matter who it is. Be happy you got ATT as they are better than most.

Metronet recently ran Fibre Optic to me. They bored the main cable in across the backyard. No open trench at all. The feeder line to the house was dug in by hand! Just a hand tool like a spade. About 125 feet. Took him about 2 hrs. Could barely see it when it was done.

$60 per month for 200MB speed, unlimited, with an extender so I can use it in my backyard now!

I don’t doubt that is there policy. It took me a ton of time, arguing, and showing proof to get the benefits of my original plan. Basically boiled down to having Directv and ATT internet gave you unlimited internet. When I got rid of satellite and went to Directv stream to cut my bill in half they tried saying the deal was no longer valid. In the end I got my unlimited back and a discount on my internet. Sucks you have to fight for what is right and many people probably don’t and they get their money.

I agree with everything you said. When I saw the contractors digging near where I knew I had an underground sprinkler head, I went out to inform them but they saw it and dug around it. Different neighborhoods seemed to have had different contractors. Some contractors really left a mess so I got lucky. Of course ATT gave number to call to report any damage. I don’t consider my grass being dug up as damage as will will be back to normal in a few years.

The contractors cut the water lines numerous times in the neighborhood where the doctors and lawyers live. The city pulled their permit. LOL

AT&T can go "pound sand" and we have told them so after being a customer for 35 years.... Buy the way we were treated in 2016 after a major flood event we were charged $80.00 to put our service on "vacation" for 1 year while rebuilding our home then wanted another $80.00 to extend the "service vacation" while still in repair mode so we changed carriers.... AT&T drug their feet for almost a full month before releasing our home and two cell phone numbers so we could go to another carrier and keep our old numbers that we had for many years.. You would not believe all the different excuses we were given for the delays in releasing the phone numbers to another carriers...... About 1 1/2 years ago AT&T dug a 3ft deep trench across our front yard and left it uncovered for 3 weeks while repair a break in the newly laid fiber optic cable.. They Had to pump out rain water several times .. Spliced cable about 1 inch OD with approx 700 individual fibers which took him 2 days to complete the splice....
... If we are out and about and come across any AT&T displays with sales people trying to get our attention or have someone representing AT&T come to our front door they are told that not them personally but their company can "go pound sand"................ drill sgt.

It's a few steps with AT&T fiber to run your own router. Google it up - 3 or 4 steps to do. I always run my own router.

What is the benefit of your own router? I have never had an issue with any of my previous ATT routers to log into them and setup things like my camera system for remote access.

You, and only you, have complete control over the router.

I have never entrusted my border router to anybody else--not at home and not at my employers.
