Contacted Maryland Locksmith, asked them to quote moving a safe, since I hadn’t bought it I asked them to quote me a generic safe of a certain size and I’d give them the opportunity.

They said they would contact the distributor and get back to me.

One week passes and I send an email, “you there?”

The reply I get is, “our safe start at 2k, the simple safe you want can’t be bought from us”

Okay, why the fuck couldn’t you say that when I called or emailed you afterwards?

“Safe moving will hit the 480$ minimum”.

Okay, again, why the fuck did I wait a week for that?

It’s my fault, I waited a week like a jackass instead of just going and buying the safe that was available at the store.

Me and my son moved it with an 18$ cart from Harbor Freight.

Business might be fantastic enough for all these businesses to forget who the customer is but that shit will change.

Original Post -

Looking to get a 48-60 gun safe. I’m on base, chances of break in are slim so just going with you run of the mill cannon or liberty but the problem lies in delivery.

I can rent Uhaul truck for the day but me wresting 600 lbs inside seems dicey. Anyone know of a safe company I could trust in the Baltimore fort Meade area?

There's actually a phenomenal moving company near there.

It's called "Juinor Enlisted" and their prices are usually pretty good. A few cold beers, a steak on the grille, or good pizza...

That moving company is pretty much around every Military Base. Wink

I have a heavy-duty dolley you are welcome to borrow if you can make it to Falls Church. Send me an e-mail to coordinate.

Last time I needed a safe moved, I went to the local college football practice field. Told one of the kids to round up 3 of his buddies and I would pay them 40 bucks each for 10 minutes of work.
Safe moved and way cheaper than the local movers wanted to do it. I might have hired HS footballers even cheaper.

If you want professionals, call Maryland Locksmith in Glen Burnie. They’ve been around forever and I know they do commercial and safe work. No idea what they’d charge for that kind of move in and placement.

I predict that there will be many suggestions and statements about the law made here, and some of them will be spectacularly wrong. - jhe888

There are a number of safe companies out that way that move safes. Go to savta.org, click on safe tech search, and put in your zip code with a radius.

That's because all of that licensing, work comp, liability insurance, and OSHA compliance adds up.

What happens when you hire a football player to move your safe and he disables himself in the process?

Rob,
Worked out great, letting them give it a shot at the sale, if not they’ll move it for me!

An appliance dolly with an extra set of adjustable wheels makes life easier.

Strap to cart, pull it back (setting the extra tires down) and then move it around. It'll just sit there until you move it. Like sitting on a flat cart.
If properly adjusted/balanced and you can lift/turn it with one hand. Either from the top or bottom. Like a teeter totter.

Perspective to this post…move option should be determined by the size and weight. All the methods described above works until you get to the big safe or the heavier ones. Also, going up and downstairs can be a challenge. Having professionals and their equipment is cheap when you consider medical bills as the alternative.

Some safes have an anti-movement mechanism that can trip if moved locking the door shut unable to be opened normally.
A locksmith can disable this so it can be relocated.

I try to coordinate lunch and dinner events for a group at various locations.

I'm amazed at how nonresponsive the event coordinators are. They can't be that busy. I sent an email. I call after several days. "Yes, I was just about to respond to your email." "Good because I like things written down for documentation to avoid misunderstandings."

I wait another week, still no email.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual."
