I know this isn't a newsflash to anyone but Dave Truong is the best.

My wife and I recently decided it was time to get rid of some gold jewelry items that we never wore anymore. She saw an ad from a local jeweler who was looking for gold jewelry to buy. She decided to take our items in and was dismayed at the seemingly low amount they were offering. She went to another store and was disappointed in their offer also. Frustrated, she brought the stuff home.

I remembered a previous posting by Dave looking for gold so I contacted him. He sent me a mailing label, I mailed the gold items and within a few days had a great offer. I accepted and a check was on its way.

His offer was way more than the jewelry stores my wife went to and the process was fast and smooth.

Again, I know it's not a surprise to anyone but I can't say enough about how good he is to deal with.

Dave has saved my but 3 times. Now my wife is dropping hints about black opal. (If watching Australian opal mining shows and commenting "that ring would look way better with a MUCH LARGER black opal" could be considered a hint.

I must be the only one on the forum with a negative experience with him.
I had some trouble with a watch I owned and emailed him looking for help.
He completely blew me off.

I'm going to guess he didn't get the email. Sounds very unlike him, given my dealings and I would guess everyone else here who has done business with Dave.

My wife wears 3 pieces from him daily and owns 1 or 2 more. I've never met the man in person, but he's earned my trust repeatedly.

Agreed.

Creslin, did you ever send a follow up email or phone his place of business?

A few years ago, I exchanged several emails with Dave about a watch, but ended up not getting one. He was extremely generous with his time and unfailingly responsive, even after I didn’t buy. A while later, I was in contact with him on another matter, and he was just the same.

I think you are doing Dave a grave disservice with your post.

Dave rocks! I had a wonderful experience when I bought my Molon Labe ring several years ago from him. Great price and fast shipping. I get compliments on my ring all the time.

Dave is the best - can't imagine going to anyone else for jewelry needs.

He is universally polite, fair, courteous, and prompt. My first purchase from him demonstrated a level of trust and commitment I probably couldn't get from family, let alone someone I had never met.

Not enough information here to know what happened. I suppose it is entirely possible that you had a make of watch that he didn’t carry or support and he was unable to help you with your problem. If I had that experience, I’d characterize it differently, but that’s just me.

Closest I've had to that was an issue with my CZ Smart & it was really more of a Citizen support issue than a Dave support issue, so he couldn't really help much.

My brother had my Mothers large diamond ring he wanted to sell. I pleaded with him to send it to Mr. Truong. He got ripped off by a jeweler in Nashville.

I agree, I often overlook emails. My fault, I get busy I read and do not mark as unread. It's been too long so I can't say for certain, but if an email comes from a Sig Forumite, I try not to give a garbage reply. I looked at our thread and this is what I dug up:
Hi Dave,

This is creslin from sigforum.
I understand you’re the authority on jewelry and watches and stuff.

I am in need of a new watch band and have no idea where to even start.
Historically I always bought cheap $25 watches and when they broke or whatever I would just ditch them and get a new.

Three years ago I bought myself one of these:
https://www.amazon.com.au/Vict...241685/dp/B00PFRZENG

(Please excuse the not-americas link - it’s no longer for sale on regular amazon).

It’s a victorinox V241685

The band I have right now is all but in pieces.
I’d like to get something quality that will last. Maybe some metal links or something like that.
Much prefer color black.

Are you able to clue me in on what to look for?
Or even better - do you offer something that would work for me to buy?

Thanks much for your time.

My reply:

Hi Mike,

Thank you for your email and I hope this finds you well. I am a dealer for Casio G-Shock, Luminox and Citizen. Check it out and see what you like.

In simple terms I think David replied with a logical next step. Think of what one of us would reply with if you asked for a pistol with a description like that..... something in metal, prefer black. Think how another person might easily read that as too vague. Not doing all the deciding for you, is not a garbage reply.

Creslin,

It's a matter of perspectives. I'm dealing with that right now with a couple of people. They think I did something wrong despite me supposedly knowing that it is wrong.
Except, from my point of view, we all agreed to the plan; they never said anything about it. And I only come to find out after I executed the plan. Doing something wrong is not consistent with my interactions with this people and I could certainly have changed the plan to their liking if they had let me know they had issues with it. I'm not a mind reader and I doubt Dave is either.

If I received that email and, even if I was as knowledgeable about watches as Dave, I need more clues from you in terms of price range, style, movement type, etc.

I read Dave's response as saying, "Okay, we have the whole universe of watches. Let me narrow it down for you without constraining you by having you look at Casio, Luminox, and Citizen."

If you had browsed through those watches, just like looking over a retail store showcase, some watches may strike your eye. If you come up with a smattering of watches, that would give him a sense of your price range, style, movement type, etc. It's like giving a blood hound a sniff of what you're looking for so that it can track the scent and take you to your target. Based on the sample watches that catch your eye, then he could have come up with the final three watches that have most, if not all, of the attributes you're looking for to choose from.

He's not a mind reader and personality wizard that can come up with a watch with the exact attributes you are looking for just based on your initial email. It's like saying, "I want ice cream. I want it to be cold and sweet." Not enough info to prime the pump.

We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual."
