As I sit here and have my morning coffee before heading out for "old fashioned straight runways" I chuckle.

This is the most ridiculous, devoid of aeronautical knowledge, and functionally stupid thing I have seen in quite a while. It ranks right up there with having passengers flap their arms to help take off.

So I guess now that when you label something as "green" and "eco-friendly" the rules of physics no longer apply because you "mean well".

Then again...look at the source.

Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

That was my reaction, but since I have zero knowledge of aviation I thought I would see what the forum pilots and experts had to say. Glad to see my gut reaction was not totally unjustified!

Good luck in a heavy crosswind. Seems purely retarded to me. Let's test this at ORD and see how well it works, lol.

Only if Naval Aviators fly, they're used to landing while turning left. Other pilots need that straightaway to get their autopilot to land for them.

A person I know landed on I-4 near Orlando about 20 years ago.

Can't be more complicated than that. Don't know, though, if FHP gave him a ticket for excessive speed. Or for parking in a restricted parking zone. Or for scaring the bejeezus out of Mickey.

Beyond stupid, but a green justice warrior it makes sense, but for the people who fly large transport aircraft, never going to do it.

I can imagine the tower chatter:

Delta 234 is on the outside with United 567 drafting and looking for some help from Southwest 854 to help push him down on the inside line as they race for the taxiway! United 567 drops onto the apron and passes Delta 234 on the inside and looks like he's going to take the checkered flag at Taxiway 32B!

Hahahaha!

There is so much that is wrong with this. No connection to the real world.

Now our pit crew aircraft mechanics will have to be sure the wheel stagger correct. But, what if some of our airports aren't circular, or of different radius?

Will the green/yellow/red light poles around the track runway be charted or NOTAM'd?

Getting caught up in the marbles at the top of the pavement could get dicey.

Can I do a donut in front of the terminal if I'm in the lead?

The cool thing about the guy's idea is the noise can be spread out so that all the neighboring houses will experience equal levels of noise. That would seem much more fair, a lot more justice socially.

Who is giving over money to this lunatic to do his research?

Inspired by "scary crosswinds landings" on youtube.

That's a perfectly valid way to begin researching a concept that would affect several million passengers daily.
