Re: “Evidently extreme cold or extreme heat makes a giant difference in the actual range. I guess this makes sense because it is a battery. I would think that Tesla would have sealed the battery in a way to prevent this but???”

Probably the reduced range is because of energy required for interior heating/cooling.

About the actual wheels under the hubcaps, as seen in the last photo of your OP…

I don’t see any lug nuts. How does that work?

Batteries generally hate being to hot or to cold. So there is Cabin Overhead protection you can set the temp for. So it'll keep the cabin say under 100 degrees no matter what if it's parked out in the sun. But you're talking definitely low single digit percentage loss outdoors on a summer day. Say maybe 5-10 miles of range loss from it running the AC on a 8 hour workday.

Out of 350 mile range that's not that much.

Same thing on extreme cold weather. Batteries don't tend to keep charge as well or take a charge as quick. You'll need to set the car to precondition the batteries in freezing. Or when it's near freezing they will have to heat up some to take the regen energy back into them.

Congrats on the new car and I'm glad you're happy with your purchase. I don't have anything against EV's or people that buy them, I just don't want the government trying to force me into one.

No caps on my wheels.

My range is 240 with a standard battery. The extended range battery was 7K more. I’m retired and couldn’t justify the cost for my current life style.

Looking at the pictures, there's a 5" OD/3" ID or so black plastic ring covering the lugnuts. It may not be a ring, but rather a 5" disk molded to look like a ring. If so, it would be an actual hub cap as opposed to the wheel covers.

If they are anything like the previous years Model 3. The covers pop off revealing the lugs. Then little covers pop on covering the lugs while showing off the rims.

Purely guessing based on previous years Standard Ranges I've looked at.

Congratulations! A good friend of mine recently bought the same one you have and I have to admit it when he hit the "gas" I was beyond impressed!

I never thought I would own a EV, but they are growing on me.

Enjoy!

You lose 8% of your range because of some hubcaps??? Seriously???

Yup, Toyota also did the same thing with the Prius for years--perfectly nice looking alloy wheels, hidden behind ugly aero hubcaps. The understanding being that the hubcaps were needed to hit good EPA numbers, but that almost everyone would take them off.

Congratulations.

I really like having at least one EV in the stable for runabout duty, cuts down on running costs quite a bit.

You looking at solar+powerwall? It's 100x more appealing to me since we bought an EV...

Congrats! I have an EV for a daily and ICE for fun. I love it for all the reasons you listed. Most of the EV pushback is because of mandates. No EV owner on this forum supports that. Enjoy your new ride!!

Cool!

With it being all glossy black, I'd be tempted to shave the emblems off for that full Darth Vader look. Big Grin

Didn't know about the mileage difference given with different wheels.

I could gain 0.74 MPG with my truck Wink

Our vehicular tastes vary greatly, but you do have a very nice home if the one pictured above is yours.
In either case, congratulations on your new car and I hope you enjoy it.

FLKev, So the battery doesn’t care about humidity. It doesn’t sweat like a human to keep cool, so the humidity doesn’t affect it that way. The cold can decreases the range. The heat I’m not too worried about as the battery will pre-heat to charge at a super charger for more efficient charging. Also if you have “Drag Strip Mode” (I don’t have that) it’ll heat the battery.
The biggest thing about range is what is your daily commute? If your commute is a hundred miles a day or less, why do you need so much range? You charge every day when you get home. As far as road trips, just charge to 100 before you leave, then add supercharging along the way.

RideWV, the insurance costs are the same as my Jeep Wrangler. Literally a couple dollars a month more than the RAV4.

Pipe Smoker, as others have said, there is a small cap that covers the lugs after I took off the aero caps.

Myrottiety, The cabin overheat would soak my battery in the summer here. The AC would run far too much as it gets hot AF. I will just use the vent feature to start and see how it shakes out.

PR64, the long range dual motor was discounted where the others I looked at were not. It made it the more affordable option. That’s part of why I bought it.

DoctorSolo, I already have a mammoth solar system. The powerwall would be cool, but not $10k cool. My off peak rates are 10.5 cents a kWh. It’s already really cheap, so I can’t justify the powerwall.

.38supersig, it’s actually not gloss black. It’s a darkish gray with a lot of metal flake. I just didn’t take the best photos. The third photo in the store parking lot shows the color most accurately.

Wolfe 21, that is my house. It is very beautiful and I am quite blessed to have it. Thank you. That’s a great compliment.

TigerDore, I’ll make it a point to update this thread in the near future, and again after I have some miles in this car.

To Al, the other members that congratulated me and complimented my new car, thank you. I really appreciate it.

That’s a true benefit of these cars. They handle surprisingly well.
Congrats from a MYLR owner.
