"Tony Bennett, the eminent and timeless stylist whose devotion to classic American songs and knack for creating new standards such as “I Left My Heart In San Francisco” graced a decadeslong career that brought him admirers from Frank Sinatra to Lady Gaga, died Friday. He was 96, just two weeks short of his birthday."

Met him once in Columbus, OH.
The most deeply tanned man I ever met.
I liked him.

I heard about that soon after it was reported and thought about my mom. He was her favorite singer in the late 50s and early 60s so she convinced my dad they should borrow his name for me when I was born rather than using a family name or something from a name book. I’ve had to explain numerous times over the years, “No, it’s not Anthony,” even though he really was one.
Rest in peace, Mr. Bennett.

Last saw him perform at the Houston Rodeo. He'd start singing and even the young girls were squealing. I think he was in his mid 80's then IIRC. Still had a voice that would melt young women's hearts.

He has had Alzheimer's since 2016. In 2021, he did 2 live shows in Radio City Music Hall with Lady Gaga. He may have had trouble with many other things, but when he got on stage, he could still sing. I saw a TV show about those 2 and the preparations leading up to the show. Its called "One Last Time: An Evening with Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga." It is very good. Amazing wnat he could do at that age - and doing it with Alzheimer's is really amazing. Looks like it is available to stream on Paramount+
They had become great friends…this video gets me in the feels every time.
