"Tony Bennett, the eminent and timeless stylist whose devotion to classic American songs and knack for creating new standards such as “I Left My Heart In San Francisco” graced a decadeslong career that brought him admirers from Frank Sinatra to Lady Gaga, died Friday. He was 96, just two weeks short of his birthday." https://apnews.com/article/ton...49fb936a38794c7c3266

I noted in two articles that he served as an infantryman in World War II. Military.com had this article on his service years and career. https://www.military.com/veter...an-tony-bennett.html

I heard about that soon after it was reported and thought about my mom. He was her favorite singer in the late 50s and early 60s so she convinced my dad they should borrow his name for me when I was born rather than using a family name or something from a name book. I’ve had to explain numerous times over the years, “No, it’s not Anthony,” even though he really was one. Rest in peace, Mr. Bennett. *** "Aut viam inveniam aut faciam (I will either find a way or make one)." -- Hannibal Barca

Last saw him perform at the Houston Rodeo. He'd start singing and even the young girls were squealing. I think he was in his mid 80's then IIRC. Still had a voice that would melt young women's hearts. _______________________ “The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. He has had Alzheimer's since 2016. In 2021, he did 2 live shows in Radio City Music Hall with Lady Gaga. He may have had trouble with many other things, but when he got on stage, he could still sing. I saw a TV show about those 2 and the preparations leading up to the show. Its called "One Last Time: An Evening with Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga." It is very good. Amazing wnat he could do at that age - and doing it with Alzheimer's is really amazing. Looks like it is available to stream on Paramount+ Tony Bennett turns 95 and celebrates with big news about final album with Lady Gaga
