Certainly not a novice then. Good. I would encourage you to get some help in his socialization and training, even if it’s just good advice, rather than formal assistance. You used the term “Maligator” for him. I understand why, but it points to the level of training he probably requires. Not all of them are capable of being MWDs, or even police dogs, but I’m sure you understand the responsibility that comes with a dog like a Malinois. He a really nice looking dog, and the fact that you’re taking him with you to work demonstrates that you are far above most owners of working dogs. Best of luck in getting him where you want him, sounds like you’re more than willing to put in the effort, and that’s commendable. _______________________________________________________ despite them

Thanks TMats. Yeah, I have people and resources if I run into any snags. My vet has trainers on site and my girlfriends daughter also works at a dog training facility nearby. He's amazingly gentle and easy going so I feel he's leaps and bounds easier than what I was prepared for. I've heard some outrageous stories about what this breed can be like when not properly trained/socialized and left to their of devices. I really enjoy working with intense pups. The relationship and bond that develops is so rewarding.

The middle picture is a classic malinois pose. Remember, a mal is the spawn of a German Shepherd and a Velociraptor having a baby. He will be extremely high drive and he’ll need lots of attention and exercise until the day he dies. If you throw a ball 1000 times, he’ll go after it 1001. Some of the best years of my career were on the dumb end of a lead with a mal.
